46 Hudson fuel gauge ohms reading
Can someone please tell me what the ohms data for a fuel gauge/ sending unit on a 46 Hudson is?
I've read on one of these threads that stepdown fuel gauges/sending units read: 0 ohms full and 100 ohms empty. I would have guessed O empty and 100 full.
Are 46/47 models the same or a different ohms value?
I find no data on this in my manual.

Same as Stepdown: @10 Ohms full, 75-80 Ohms empty is in the ballpark.

My understanding is that both dash and tank units are bi-metal, not rheostat.

The company I purchased my tank from asked the ohms rating in order to match a modern sending unit to the original Hudson fuel gauge. Bi-metal vs rheostat was not discussed.

The rheostat sender does work with the bimetal gauge, as in fact the 1951-54 Stepdowns did use a modern rheostat (resistance) type sender with the old bimetal gauge , but they also put a constant 5.5V instrument voltage regulator in the power feed to gauges from the ignition switch. This prevents the gauge reading from varying with generator output. You can use any constant 5.5V instrument voltage regulator in the power feed to the fuel gauge, from various 50's-80's AMC, Chrysler, Ford cars.
