Forum Changes

This forum will be migrated to a new home over the coming days as it's been interfering with the actual club site too much in terms of processing power.

You will see some changes when it moves , the software it runs on is no longer supported so it's a case of make do and mend with it.

At some stage it will be incorporated into the actual club site but that's a few months in the future.

Let me remind me people that this free forum is supported by the HET Club and it's under a reasonable endeavours remit that it is kept running.

Any comments / suggestions can be made here but , again, it's old unsupported software so when things break then they mostly stay broken.

Comments

  • Thank you Paul for all you do!

  • It's now moved to its new home away from the main club site. I have done as much testing as I can, it's basically a migration that took place but it fought me (and CoPilot) all the way!

The underlying software is the same and , as I've said before, it's no longer supported so any bugs will remain as bugs.

If anyone spots anything "odd" please post in here and I'll see if it's fixable

  • My software says the site is not secure and you shouldn't go there.

  • Your software is wrong Mike , what are you pointing at? The url is openforum.hetclub.org and that is secure

  • Huh. Mine was pointing at forum.hetclub.org, which is not secure. I just changed it to this, which is secure. We'll see if this sticks. Thanks Paul.

  • Okay Mike , I've tweaked it now such forum.hetclub.org is also secure. To be honest it's been so long that I've used it that I'd forgotten it was there so thanks for bringing it to my attention and apologies for being grumpy

  • Paul, thank you for all the time you spend on the Hudson forums. I'm sorry it's fighting you every step of the way, you really don't deserve that!

I'm just trying to remember: wasn't this forum (openforum.hetclip.org) the original "Classiccar.com" forum which was devised by Dan Jandron and Dave Sollon, way back when the earth's crust was cooling? Actually it was a website with several different forums, one of which was the H-E-T one. We had a lot of technical issues with it, so we -- pre-emptively -- established our own forum, for fear that Classiccar would go down some evening, like the Titanic. Almost as soon as our new forum (which we later named "the Hudson Open Forum") was established, Dan sold his website along with its forums but -- very kindly -- gave us the original H-E-T forum. We didn't really need two separate Hudson forums. But we decided to keep them, and make the "Hudson Open Forum" into a more public forum (easy to join). The former Hudson "Classiccar" forum then became a forum for members only, for discussing Club issues.

  • Hi Jon,

You've got it spot on , I remember one of the first jobs that Aaron tasked me with was getting that old data into this forum and 13 years or so later I'm still fighting it 😀

As part of the "new" website design I'm working on I'm hoping to include this in there so we don't have separate forums as such and , more importantly, we can be using supportable software
