Monroe Shock needed for 1933 Terraplane 8

Three of my shocks are rebuildable. One is not as the aluminum cup is frozen inside the cylinder. Anyone have a rebuildable one? The lever needs to be movable.

Here's some pictures of the one which is bad. Thanks.

You may want to try A-1 Shock Absorber, https://www.shocks2springs.com/

  • Thank you. A-1 didn't have it.

  • I would think that the companies that rebuild these lever action shocks could drill out this frozen piston, drill out the body and sleeve it back to the correct size, turn a new piston using one of your other shocks piston as an example, and thus save your bad shock.

  • Thanks for the feedback. It was sent to apple. Problem is they can't find the replacement part for the cup (part they would need to drill out).

It's a long shot, but you might consider e-mailing an appeal to other '35 owners, asking if they have any used shock absorber parts they'd sell you. (You could obtain their names and e-mail addresses through the Club roster.) Be sure to include a photo of the shock and the cup you seek, along with some dimensions. Owners who replace parts will sometimes hold onto the old ones, on the chance that new or rebuilt ones may become extinct.

  • They can use one of the cups from one of your other shocks as an example to get one made by a machine shop. It won't be cheap, but the chances of finding the part or a shock are slim. Hardly any of these got the care and refilling the hydraulic fluid they require when they were new. Consequently, they almost all froze up or ground the internal parts into dust. Some owners back in the day converted to the linear shock we know and use today. I luckily got one of the companies at did these (Apple Hydraulics?) back in the '80's to do mine. At that time they still had parts and expertise to do them. The inside of mine had been ground to dust do to lack of maintenance.
