Hudson 1923 Starter linkage broken

These are the photos of the problem. I have replace the rubber metal reinforced linkage between my generator and water pump. The shaft itself is not completely straight. This is the result after running in for a about 10min. Any sugguestions?

Not clear what problem is - could I machine a new shaft for you - possibly stainless steel ? Gert (retired machinist in SLC, UT. - do you have dimensions? If this is possible I will give you my email address.)

  • It needs to made in the style of a rag joint.

  • The problem is the tearing of the reinforce rubber connector. One person said maybe the generator is shot and needs too much power to rotate? I will check on that. I did notice that there is a slight offset to the generator and the shaft that may be the issue. Making a new metal shaft does not seem to be the solution or the problem. However, the shaft is worn but on this 1923 Hudson we would have to remove the radiator, oil pump and water pump to add a new shaft. I think I will let the next caretaker of this car do that.
