Found these two cars on ebay and the seller says he is the guy who built the Doc Hudson replica that Newman drove at the promo. No reserve, don't know I believe this stuff.

Nice enough looking cars - but I think if this guy was legit he would be offering some kind of proof that documents/pictures he was the one who produced the panels and these were the cars used. The other red flag is the guys contact name is Kevin and the ebay account is markscho??

Was it not in fact, Ivan Zarumba's modified Haornet that was used for the animator's to creat Doc Hudson? Why did they need plastic panels for if this was an animated film and I would presume all done on computers?

Ivan's Hornet was at a movie theater for part of the Western Reserve Regional meet.

    reported on this forum.

Also notice ad say Item location Cinton Crossings, New York, but in item description it shows both vehicles sold as is where is in West Palm (FLA??) Why two cars to make same parts? Something NOT RIGHT here. AGREE??

  • Even if these were the cars to pull the molds for the movie promo car, big deal. That wouldn't add any value to the original value of the cars to me. If they were the actual promotional car, then it would be different. I agree with the "fishy" part of this auction. Need documentation to ad any provenance to these cars.

    Swasp76063 - Ditto!

J Spencer - The guy is claiming these cars were used to make the fiberglass molds of the Doc Hudson "re-creation" car Paul Newman drove at the speedway and pictured in the ad - not that these were used to model the animated movie car.

Regardless - the guy is offering no proof and as Swasp76063 put it - Big Deal! other than the guy allegedly trying to fraud some poor soul into paying more than the cars are worth.

Sadly this is probably just the start of a "Sh#@ Storm of A-holes" (how I got that one passed the smut filter - I'll never know...;) ) trying to make a quick buck and give us all a bad name
  • Double ditto!!

Besides, the recreation car is a coupe. The sedan couldn't have been used for pulling molds. He also states in the HH ad that the front clip was used. Maybe but then the sedan couldn't have been used for anything!!!

Dan's right, just the first round of the schmucks trying to make a buck off of Hudson. The cars are probably decent but definitely not worth anything more than normal.
  • IMHO- Only the track promo car would worth anything and that would just be as a curiosity. As discussed on an earlier thread, the proportions on that car are wrong. As for the two cars forsale, they would just be regular value cars. No reserve is a positive. Frame off restorations in 90's? Yeah right.
  • For those who are speculating... this is for real. Kevin is infact the person who created DOC HUDSON shown below in the picture. The cars were bought to support the.. SPLASH needed to create the Composite body. The fact that there are two cars is because the broker who sold the cars to GUNNAR RACING would not sell the Hollywood without buying the other car. Two car deal only.

Gunnar Racing built DOC without Disney or Pixar financial support strictly as a car for Paul Neuman to race. The chassis is a Petty racing truck chassis.

DOC is currently on display at 13 Theater drive in complex to promote CARS.

The no reserve auctions are to get the cars back into the hands of Hudson folks. If you go to the GUNNAR RACING website after next Tuesday there will be pictures of the process and story of building DOC HUDSON.

The Yellow car was restored in Indianapolis IN and brought to NY the other car was restored by the owner there. Both cars are now in Florida at Gunnar Racing. They run and are in decent shape.

Ken - Thanks for clearing that up - Kevin should make some additional notations to his ebay listing so rampant speculation doesn't hurt his bidding.

BTW - I think that 52 looks Sweet and Clean! Wish I had some cash to buy it and finish it off...but I wouldn't pay extra because it was used to make the molds...
  • ha dan did you notice that he says it is a 8 cyl in his description i only see 6 . Hudson Dave

We should not "jump the gun" and condem anyone on this forum unless we have concrete proof.

Amen, good to see that they support getting the cars back to those that love them. I didn't mean that the cars were'nt as represented but it seemed that he was going for extra $$$ by using the tie in.
  • I wasn't really coming down on the guy. I was just saying that I wouldn't pay any more for the cars than their actual value. If there was more value to the cars because of the molds being pulled off them, then I would need more proof. I have never bought a car off Ebay, and I don't see myself ever doing it. Everyone else can do whatever they wish. Just my opinions and everyone knows what they are worth, don't they?

Whooops, my bad!!! didn't know that a promo car was made.

  • found this old string, I actually own the sedan that this post was talking about. It has 112k original miles and has had only 5 owners (including the brief ownership of Gunnar Racing). I've spoken with the 2nd owner down in texas briefly to get some history. Its very well preserved, was restored in 1992 and is in really good shape and has tons of documentation of both the car itself and the building of doc hudson promo car. In fact, the sedan was used for the sides of the promo car and cut down, as the hollywood has a different c pillar and Kevin liked the roofline of the sedan better. I won the auction back in 2006 and have just been cleaning and restoring it slowly. She runs great!
  • Let's see some pics!

Hmmmm - click on either one of those links takes you to a ebay page says item has been pulled.

Makes me wonder if all the negative posts on this made the fellow think twice.

It is indeed a sad thing that occasionally something comes up, on ebay or some other venue, it's like tossing a lamb to the wolves. Most of the negative posts usually are by people who have not researched the item or the venue because they think they are smarter than the average bear and besides, isn't it so much easier to be negative than do the research.

Now, before the building falls on my head I'm not saying the posts on this caused the withdrawal - I'm simply making an observation, which is my right, on what I have seen on this forum. If you can be negative I can add my nickle to the pot.

    Point made.

You made a good point Alex. I have to admit thats pretty much the reason I have never volunteered any pictures of my truck when asked.
