Front door glass install

I am finishing the install of all new glass in my '53 superwasp sedan. The last two left are the front vent wing and passenger side front door glass. All the rest of the windows went in easy. The front door glass was very difficult to get on the window tracks and the regulator channel run all at the same time. I ended up cracking the last one and having to get it recut. Am I making this more difficult than it needs to be? I dropped the square glass in from the top before and put on glass runner before sliding the last roller onto the 3 inch channel run. If I do this I can get all 3 roolers on but am having a difficult time getting the window regulator the align with the hole in the door. After I get it in should the vent window go in last? This is getting a little frustrating at $25.00 a pop for new glass. Any body out there been through this? The shop manual is kind of vague on this, and I know it shouldn't be this difficult. Should the regulator be installed on the short runner and bolted in before getting onto the glass ruinners?

Thanks,

Rich

    Rich,

I did my '49 sedan last winter (well three of the four doors, anyway). As far as I can remember, the vent wing window goes on last/comes off first. That's the only way to get the glass 'in the tracks'.

Your glass pane is assembled to the bottom track outside the car, right? Removing this track from the glass to sandblast and paint it was probably the trickiest part of the stuff I did. I ended up cracking one glass myself doing that. With new 'window setting channel' from K-Gap, I epoxied to the channel, this was then carefully driven onto the window edge. I think I even epoxied a little between the glass and rubber channel, too.

This assembly then goes in the door slot from the top. Engage the regulator rollers, and then install the regulator to door screws. The wing window goes in last.

    Hope this helps.

    Doug,

This is the method I have been trying. I will just employ a little more patience then. The tricky part is getting all three rollers on at the same time.

I installed my glass about 3 years ago. I also cracked one of them first try. I remember that the vent glass definately goes in last. As far as lining up the regulator rollers you have crank the regulator up and down to get the rollers to line up with the bottom track of the glass. Then attatch the regulator to the door and slide the vent glass frame into position.
