the new guy
Hi,
I have been lurking on this forum for awhile listening to all of your views on Hudsons. I have been looking for a stepdown hudson for a while and found they are kinda hard to find, so for now I will keep listening to all of you and all of your advice. I live in south central Indiana, and have found alot of rusty frame cars, I guess that was common in the 49-53 models. I have seen a few with camaro or nova front clips installed with chevy engines, I think I would rather have the original inline 6. I hope to spot a good one soon!!

Not to plug Bill Albright, but he had a terrific 48-9 coupe that needed done, but was low miles, and running, and rust free..... California is a bit far for me, and since I got two kids, and a house which = no money
the price was right... I think he still has it....
He also has a non project car that is awful nice....0 -
Keep looking. The cars are out there. I realize that you may have to go further south to find one with less rust, but you will find one. I happened on mine by accident, and other than a couple of easily fixed holes in the rockers (which are very easy to fix, since you can unbolt them and weld up the holes on a work bench), was rust free. Good Luck,

Join the HET club if you haven't already. Go to a local club gathering. You'll get access to cars for sale that you would otherwise never know about. Not to mention a wealth of knowledge of people to help you find a good one.0

thanks for the tips! I wouldn't mind going to calif. for a nice coupe if the price was right. About the only thing that I know for sure is that I want a coupe, I suppose everyone else does too... I have checked for a club in my area and there is one in Indy so thats not too far from me. I guess that the ideal Hudson in my mind would be a 51 hornet coupe, but any of step down car are as good looking as the next. Mr. Albright has several nice cars from what I hear, I will have to talk to him. Thanks

As others have mentioned, join the club. The club magazine, White Triangle News, always has a few cars in the classified ads. Keep lurking on this forum. This crowd locates more Hudsons than anywhere else. Keep an eye on e-bay aswell. There is quite a bit of variety and many here follow the market on those cars. I don't know what your looking to spend on a car (Hornet Coupe) but don't jump at the first one without asking around first. One thing forsure, you'll get alot of opinions here from people who have been around the block with Hudsons.0 -

Hi Morgan, welcome to the forum and the wonderful world of Hudsons!
I see that you're specifically interested in a coupe but I've got a complete 1952 Hornet Sedan for sale, no rust in the outer perimeter frame, original southern California car. $3000 here in Utah. Just FYI...:rolleyes:0 -
Indiana is kind of a special state in the HET world, as I see it. First you have Eldon and Esta Hostetler, with their incredible collection of Hudsons (soon to be partially housed in the new museum in Shipshewana!). Then, of course there's Larry Kennedy. You want to talk about a Hudson Guy! The Wildrick's family have several generations of Hudson folk, etc., etc.
Bill is right. Join the HET club, then also a local chapter. You'll never regret it. Welcome to the wacky, wonderful world of Hudsons.0 -
Morgan,
There's a lot of step-downs ('48-'54) that need good homes. Lots of cars change hands between HET members too rather than on the open market because we want them to go to good homes. Go to a few meets and ask around. There's lots of well-known established HETers in the IN. area. Don't know if you're after a runner or willing to accept a project but you should be able to find your car. If you can't find that coveted legendary racing Hornet Coupe don't forget that every model line had a coupe: Pacemaker, Commodore 6 Commodore 8 Super 6, Super 8, Wasp, Super Wasp, as well as Hornet.0 -
Hi,
I will have to contact my local club in Indy. I got the info off of the HET website. As for having to have a hornet, I like all of the line. just as long as it's a coupe.
Here is a newbee question, The 308 six was quite legendary with the twin h manifolds and other goodies that I probally don't know about, camshaft and other upgrades, but it would seem that the eight cylinder commodore would be the high horse engine. What am I missing?? Is the commodre a much heavier/larger car, or what?
Thanks

54 ci and 15 years.
the commodore 8 and hornet were comprable cars as far as trim (top of the line), they are the same in wheelbase/body. the 254 ci splasher 8 was developed in the early 30's with few changes until discontinued in '52. the 308 ci 6 was a beefed up version of the new 262 ci super six developed for the stepdowns (actually only a 5 hp difference in rating between the 8 and 262) . between 51 and 54 it was further enhanced by addition of twin-h, 7x options, and block reliefs.0
