On the top of the dash, between the upholstered top and the face there is a small stainless bead going across from left to right. I need one...can you help?

Thanks

I just checked my dash and owners manual, no such animal. Wouldn't the existance of such trim be contrary to the design philosophy of the padded dash top not being reflective? However, production changes could, and did, occur from month to month. But if such trim is supposed to be there, I guess I need one too.

  • My '51 Convert doesn't have the bead, I'm positive the car has never been apart for any reason. Just my 2 cents worth...

Lewis, I have '52 & '53 Hornet Coupe and have removed the dash from '52 for sand blasting etc. I can confirm on both of my cars there is a small stainless bead and if anybody is making I too would like to buy bead.

How about posting a picture so we can see what we're missing?

This is three pictures of the trim strip from my 1952 Commodore 8.

Sorry Lewis it is the only one I have. If you have to buy a whole interior just to get this piece and it is the blue grey stripe pattern, I may be interested in some pieces.

The first picture shows the chrome strip still attached to the dash.

This piece is very fragile the mounting strip is just paper.

I do not know if these were on the 53's. The vinyl dash covering's edge went underneath this trim piece.

I don't see any evidence of there having been one on my '51 Hornet sedan. However, there appears to be space for one, and perhaps reason for it to keep out dust, or more likely reduce the likelyhood of cutting the durafab inlay during removal. Then, of course, there is styling.... :) Walt-LA

Have you tried Restoration Specialties products?

    Catalog is here: http://www.restorationspecialties.com/2005%20catalog%20pdf/2005%20CATALOG.pdf

I think small welting available has the correct bead size... pop rivet some light metal to the welting and you have the replacement .. possibly there is a fender or window welt with sufficient width to meet the full requirement of a replacement.

    Good Luck

My 53 hornet sedan had one. I left it out as I was unable to find a suitable replacement when I put it back together.

HOT When you suggested this I remembered I had a piece of new window welt. This is still avaiable at auto glass repair facilities. The top piece is the original and the bottom is the new.

The new piece is narrower and does not reach the studs on the dash but, I believe you can squeze it tight when you bolt the dash on and it will hold.

You will need to peel off the fuzzy felt that rides along the glass, it stips off like caulking.

The stainless bead looks to be about the same size. The piece I bought was about 8 feet long.
