Hudson huge hit with thousands of kids.

I brought my blue 51 Pacemaker 2 door to a MSRA [ Minnesota Street Rod Association] event this weekend in MN, and of over 11,000 cars registered 1964 and older, covering street-rods, customs and classics. This car, complete with with "Doc Hudson" eyes, was a huge hit with the parents and kids. Virtually every Kid that walked by knew the make and most even the year of this car. It was a blast. With only a hand full of stepsdowns there, it was by far one of the most recognized cars, to kids, young and old, and mom's especially. I have no idea how to add the picture of this car here. Can someone help me, or just send me an e-mail and I will send the JPG for you to add it to this note. You really gota see this one. Thanks, Bob

Matt said he could get them on this afternoon. This was a real crowd pleaser at the "Back to the fifties". It is a good ringer.0

You can send it to me if you like and I'll post it. HETdetailed@verizon.net (drop the HET before sending)

Bob, here ya go. That's one sharp "Doc" you got there!0 -
We need to take the bull by the horns, get as many '51's out to local multi-make (and street rod!) shows we can, complete with eyes! (Someone told me that Target sells an 'eyeball' sunscreen that fits inside the windshield). Then -- if you dare -- let the kids get in the cars to have their photos taken by Mom and Dad!
What an opportunity to get a step up (with our step-downs!) on the "competition", LOL!0 -
What a great color match Bobbydamit's car is to "Doc". This popularity is just the tip of the iceberg.0

Great Look! Where did you get the Doc Hudson "Eyes"? Did you make them yourself, or is there someone out there selling them? I need a pair for my Hudson. Could have used it last weekend for our Red, White & Blue Parade / Car Show.

They need to be all out there for people to see. The movie is drawing attention to the marque. People need to see that there was a lot more to Hudson than just the Hornet coupe.0

Sorry guys, Can't buy these eyes. My 35 year old son helped me wash and wax the Hud the day before, and my 11 year old daughter made the eyes the night before out of construction paper and clued them together. I was amazed. So who says "cut and paste class" in grade school isn't productive time spent. I have offers that I am in tears turning down, but this one is my final one and it stays in the family.0 -
I was sitting at a stoplight just an hour ago and the guy next to me asked my if I had restored my car. I told him that I bought it this way. He said he worked for State Farm and then reached into the back seat and handed me a brand new "Cars" baseball cap. Apparently, State Farm has a marketing agreement with the Movie. Cool!0
-
Neils, It might be because the first auto policy that State Farm Insurance ever wrote was for a 1917 Hudson. If I'm not much mistaken they had a 1917 Hudson restored and I think it sits somewhere at their corporate headquarters in Northbrook ,Ill.0

There are several summer shows I participate in around here either with My 55 F-100 or my 68 442. My Hornet isn't really pretty but with all the buzz around this movie, I am going to get it out there anywhere and everywhere. I can't remember the last show that wasn't club related that had a Hudson in it.0

I've been taking my 49 Commodore to all the Classic Chevy Club Car Shows. Our Classic Chevy Club lets anyone that has an old car join and participate. Lots of old Fords, Plymouths, Dodges, even an old Nash. I get most of the attention with the Hudson. They guys with the big buck Street Rods get upset with all the attention the old Hudson gets. Used to be all the old timers that say "I used to have one like that", or "My Dad had one like that". Since the movie, the kids are telling their parents that it's a Hudson like "Doc".

p.s. - guess I have to make my own "eyes". Not sure about my "cut & paste" skills. May have to wait for the grandson to visit!0 -

i think your daughter ought to go in business for herself and make a few sets for those of us who aren't quite so handy with the glue and scissors,or would that be violating child labor laws?0 -
The local theater wants to rent my car and park it in front of the door for the showing of " Cars " . I declined. The rent was a nice price, but the chance of kids chipping the new paint job are just too great, even if it has a roped off area. I would imagine I'd let it out for a parade or two this year. Cruzin nights lately are bringing lotsa finger pointing by the kids as well. Talk about getting noticed !!! Fun stuff. Our cars are MOVIE STARS.0

I took your suggestion and made my own Doc Hudson Eyes. I got the "foam board" at Walmart and used poster board for the blues, and construction paper for the black.

Ran the 52 Hornet with eyes, in the 4th of July Parade in http://www.northvilleny.com today. A regular 'That's a Hudson Hornet' din from both sides of the street. Kids are all pointing and grinning. All kinds of attention last nite at the car show also. They love that gold and red Twin H. It starts on the first turn and they can't believe how quiet it is. And that's after I slit the muffler to get a little rumble. Let em sit in it and watch the memories come back.0

Elma Marks, wife of our club's late founder, made this comment from the podium at the recent Eastern Regional Meet: "With the movie, 'Cars,' now there are TWO groups of people who know what a Hudson Hornet is ... those over 70, and those under 7."0

All I can say is , Well Spoken Elma........0

Had to post my eyes.... construction paper goes a long way along with medical photos from the internet.... kids are loving it everywhere I display them!0

Here is the original model for the character and it sold for about twice it's value.

OK guys from MN. Anyone in the MSRA that has not seen the feature of a certain Hudson in their Magazine, The Line Chaser, look now and enjoy. We finally made the press, with pictures. I did not get into the "Memories" for 2006 because I was only there Sunday, and there were 11,000 cars there, but at least we made the magazine on page 54. Fun stuff. Hope to see ya in NE.0 -

I would like to make the nationals in NE with this look-alike "Doc" but am not sure my body can make the trip in the Hudson, and I have many parts to bring as well. Does anyone have a car dolly close to MN that I can buy or borrow, so I can tow it behind my truck, with the eyes in the windshield of course??/952-887-2514. I will try E bay as well. Thanks guys.0 -
what day are you leaving? i'm using my trailor on aug 18,19,200
