Here we go... first resto
As stated above, "here we go". I've decided that it is time to do my first restoration, or something close to restoration. My mother is turning 50 in april 2009 and my brothers and myself have decided to get her a car. She has shown interest in the Nash Metros, Hudson Jets (my choice), and first gen Camaros. We don't have a lot of money to throw at the project all at once so the Camaro is out. She is a former Club member so I feel the Jet would be appropriate.
What I would like to know from the helpful people who frequent this fabulous forum is this; What do I look for when looking at a possible Jet project?
I'm looking for something we could put a lot of sweat into instead of a lot of cash.
Thanks in advance.
Northwest Chapter members... Do you know if Jim Harmon has any Jets left out there?

The main thing you want too watch out for is the RUST!!. They seem to rust out from about middle way back. I have three Jets, one that I am restoring, one for parts, and one that is border line on restoring or parting out. The parts car is nothing but rust, the border line one has real bad quarter panels, the one that I am restoring isn't too bad, it came from out west. The parts for Jets are not as plentiful as the other Hudsons, like the stepdowns. And they don't have the value of some of the other Hudsons. I didn't buy mine too re-sale, I just like messing with old cars, mainly orphans. I also own three Crosley's.
But they are still a neat car! I hope you can find one and give it a good home!!
Good luck, Barry:) :0 -

As for parts you'lll probably want to get the "Jet Set" newsletter which you can subscribe too as long as you are in the HET club getting the WTN....which is also helpful. Whatever you start with, get the most solid and complete car possible, even if you have to pay a bit more for it. IF your time frame for this project is 3 years you definitely wouldn't make it doing a major frame repair operation.0 -

Northwest chapter is having their September meeting at Jims- but I'd just call him, as he is an easy guy to talk to, and has been in "selling" mode for some time, so would probably love to hear from a potential customer0 -

As far as I can tell, the "Jet Set" is just a myth. I sent my dues almost a year ago and all I got was a cancelled check.
There are lots of good people on this board and in the club with Jets that will give any advice that's needed. My advice is to get one that is roadable already and work on the cosmetics as needed. Rust is your number one enemy, I was lucky...mine is pretty solid.
Your mother will have a great time with a Jet. They are easy to drive and park, handle great, and have plenty of power to keep up with modern traffic.0
