Are Fuel Pumps Interchangable '49 To '51

:confused: I bought a 49 with electic pump only. I want to put the mechancial back on with electric. I have a pump off a '51. Will it work??

    According to my Interchange Book, the '51 fuel pump will work on your '49.

    but your question was will it work? That is a much tougher one to answer. Be sure it has been rebuilt with modern neoprene diaphrams as the older stacked or tarred diaphrams may not work for long.

    Essentially two types of pumps were available from Hudson from two manufacturers. The most common was the AC single and double action fuel pump that were available from 48-54 with a modification to the vacuum diaphram casting in 1952. All will interchange. There was also the Carter single and double action fuel pump from 48-54. Although less common these were used during the stepdown run and will work on whatever model you install them. The question you may need to ask is; do I need the vacuum capabilities of the double action to work my wiper blades or can I use single action and still be OK? All of these pumps have rebuild kits available or that service can be obtained from club members.

    The Jet fuel pump will work also, as the Jet pump is sill working fine on my 50 C6.
