The older gaskets also don't hold up well to today's gasoline formulas. My guess is that's why you haven't exactly been swamped with replies on this one... the carb may need to be rebuilt again using new gaskets to be useable. Good luck.

If it's a Carter WGD 776S, I'm interested in it. Would need to see a pic or three first tho, if that is possible?
