The rust monster is back (at least those dark spots look like rust to me-correct me if I'm wrong)! Haven't we seen this one before?

I will say after looking at the body style on this '54 Coupe, its not bad at all. I really wasn't a fan of the fins on the '54 but I was looking at 4 door sedans. I think this style could actually make a good sled if you were to shave it or at least minimize the trim. The slope down the rear window over the trunk lid has a good shape I think and the grill area would be easy to work with. And the fins aren't that tall. Still, I like my '50 Coupe better, but am adjusting my take on the '54 (at least the coupe version).

    Jay,

It always puts a smile on my "mug" when you talk about choping, shaving, stuffing big motors in, etc., into Hudsons on this forum! I know the "purists" must be gritting their teeth, but I love it! I got my 52 hornet from my late uncle who died at the age of 81, and he was driving it 'til the end. Fortunately for me, he had already stuffed a Chry. small block into it twenty years ago. I'm just taking it a couple steps further. (I've tossed the white walls and most of the trim, dumped the front 3 1/2 inches, lowering the back 2 inches, added a 3 inch exhaust system and painting it Tangerine.) It is supposed to be out of the paint shop in time to cruise the Route 66 Rendezvous in September. Even though it will have shiney new paint, it will always be a beater at heart, and will be driven hard! The only thing better than a Hudson is a hotrod Hudson!

I'm looking forward to seeing your's on the road too.

  • I love the 54 coupe look - BUT, there are two key statements made in this ad that say stay away: NORTH EAST and RUST!!! Yes those dark spots are rust through. Note the leading edge of the hood, rocker panels, doors and rear quarter panels. But remember what you can't see in this picture might be the worst part of this picture, my ye rust in piece. :(

Neils posted this one a week or two back. Looks to be all there but the rust could be an issue.

I had been thinking about this car if it were closer. I have a perfect body and frame 54 Coupe. I was toying with the idea of using the rust bucket as a donor vehicle for interior, glass and a few parts. Both combined would make a nice complete and desirable 54 coupe.

If that's all you're wearing, I'm sure you'll meet lots of new friends.
  • I spoke to the fellla from goldenrod garage today. The car has some rot in the frame rails but he said it could be fixed. He seemed pretty familiar with how hudsons are built and from what i gather his place has a good rep. I dont have the skill or talent to tackle a job like that. Last night I met up with my friend Charlie down in New London CT, On the way back home he passed me doing close to 90mph in his custom 54 Buick and all I could think about was that 54 Coupe lowered with a set of dual pipes with smithy mufflers
