OK - enough is enough!

The local forum search has been broken for over a month and
NOW you can't reply to a post without using the "quote" button

Come on...these are simple code fixes and making it tough for anyone to use the forum without jumping through a bunch of hoops!

Just wanted to get that off my chest - feel free to delete this post once someone gets on the problem!

BTW - Internet Explorer 6.x is the browser...I can't be the only one having issues...

Looks like I have to quote to so who is the guru that maintains this? I guess since it is free I don't think I have a right to really complain, we're lucky to have what we have. I know I don't have the computer experience or the time to maintain a website.

I do have the expertise...that's why I get to complain! LOL :D

I realize that site useage is free - but if the user experience sux then it will drive new people away - then they don't get exposure for ClassicCar.Com advertisers and prospective members.

So this is meant as "constructive" critisism and to make it better for all - especially me  ;)

    Dan,

You are right on. Fix these things and improve the technology and it will be even more popular.

Actually, the SEARCH seems to be working right now. If you click on ADVANCED SEARCH just beneath it, you'll have the option of searching any of the forums individually.

I have sent our webmaster an e-mail explaining what's broken.

To repeat what's been said previously, we owe a great debt of gratitude to Classiccar.com and its owners, for the invaluable help they've given us on this website. It doesn't cost the H-E-T Club a dime. So, we should try to keep all our suggestions on the positive, constructive side -- as the vast majority of you have done.
  • Dan:

You are right when you say the sight should be repaired.

Until then here are a couple of quick detours. To post a reply with out quoting, go to the end of the last post. You will see an icon marked New Thread at the lower left corner, this icon actually takes you to a reply thread page not a new thread page. Actually I think last week this icon read Post Reply and not New Thread. I have seen some other subtle changes in the forum so maybe they are slowly changing the format. If this is true, It would have been nice if a warning was posted like the old State road construction standby "Under Construction, Temporary Inconvience, Permanent Improvement.":D

To do a search go to the page listing all the Marque Forums. The search box works there and since Hudson has 99.99% of the posts usually only Hudson posts come up.

Jon B: The search engine on the main thread page for Hudson is still not working for me. I am using Mozilla not IE for a browser.

  • I'm using IE 6.0 and the Post Reply button works fine for me.

I can get it to work (post reply) - but it contains a quote from the post that I'm clicking Post Reply on. IE 6

I see were the Webmaster is starting to make some changes, at least changes visible to us.

If you go to just past the last post in a thread on the left it now says Reply in red ink inside a grey box. It used to say New Thread. This is the button you would use to reply without a quote.

Next I assume they will remove the Post Reply button, which does not work anyway, that is next to the quote button. Once the changes are finished it should be easier to use.

The search button is still inactive.

I've been on this forum for nearly 2 years and technically it's in the worse state I have seen it in terms of end user functionality - as a web programmer by trade I notice these types of issues much more than an average user. Wouldn't you want your auto mechanic tell you if your motor was making noise? Really, I don't see this as being any differant.

I like the site and use it EVERYDAY/MULTIPLE X' a DAY (I got nothing better to do...) and also feel it's my duty as a member to report when something is wrong. I did several weeks ago...nothing happened...hence the reason for the start of this thread to try and get some attention to the problems! I don't feel I was bashing anyone, I apologize if I came across like that.

The GREAT thing is now everyone who has control of the site is aware of the problems and they are getting fixed.

So yes, Thank You to ClassicCars for giving the Hudson Forum (we are the only ones who use it...;)) the space and who ever has to now spend the extra time to straighten some technical issues out and keep us up and running!

It's REALLY unfair to say that we are the only ones who use ClassicCar.com Forums. Why on the site dedicated to the entire Generous Motors Corporation there are 1,257 posts. They're sure to catch up to our 24,619 any day now!:D

A little inconvience will not kill anybody. I'm another that's thankful for this offering we have - and don't care if I have to enter my posts one word at a time. We'll "git 'er done" sooner or later!!!

Still a hell of a lot better than logging on - and, horrors, ain't nothing there!!!

My soapbox for this day, Sunday August 06, 2006.:D

    Hudsonly,

    Alex Burr
  • Alex brings up a good point. What happens if we do log on and... poof!... there's nothing there? Maybe the HET club should keep a list of our email addresses just in case classiccar goes away. That way we can quickly get another forum going somewhere else if something goes wrong here.
