I was lucky enough to have Ken Cates on the phone with me when I was looking at the wasp. I spent no time on the Hornet however it was in the same garage and looked to be in good shape - that is, the outside body. I didn't crawl underneath (the Hornet) or open a door. Both cars were dirty and the lighting inside was not the best. I would have looked at it had someone called about it with an interest, no one did. If someone has an interest in the Hornet and Jack is still selling it I will look for everything with the interested party on the phone. I will also look for everything Ken told me should be looked at. I am on vacation starting tomorrow and will return the following Saturday. So I will be looking again in better light the Sunday after this Sunday. You can call me if you have an interest 856-364-4098 and I will call you when I'm there on sunday - first caller only. Then I will post my observations. If no one has an interest I will not look.

    okay for the Wasp:

First let me say - I told Jack I would buy the car provided the frame was not rusted out. I did observe several sections of the frame but could not get to everything I needed to see. Jack understood and has given me a first refusal option. He would not take my deposit. I can say he is a stand up guy! Additionally there is a second party who has said he wants the car should I decline to buy it. I have informed Jack of the second party. There is also another party who expressed interest in the car and who has contacted me and Jack.

The car was not as nice as the pictures led us to believe but overall it is in really solid shape.

    Bad:

Four rust spots observed under car. 1 on rear corner of frame 8" section but only the bottom was bad - sides are solid in that area. 3 on drivers side floor pan one in toe board area was 4" x 6" its an automatic with a pan above that pan. 2 other small areas. No other rot seen. COULD NOT SEE EVERYTHING - trunk pan had undercoating which scares me. It was not cracked or bubling anywhere but you just can't tell whats under it - I will do some probing with a pointy object when I return. Top of light buckets all solid according to my 1" magnet. Rockers no evidence of rust problem but there is a skim coat of plastic but magnet held strong on both rockers high and low from front to back.

Prior work done to passenger side front of door and section of body in front of door. No other collision damage. All seams door trunk hood looked good. Door sagging something less then 1/16"

Chrome some starting to pit, back bumper is pitting.

Not original interior but is nice except for headliner has small tears and is missing side trim both sides.

Paint - needed. Some 'small' rust areas around trim.

Sorry guys I started this post 10 am this morning and its now after 6 pm - I just haven't had time to complete it. The car overall is good and solid

    I'll repost more later.
  • Thanks for taking the time to give us the heads up on these cars.
  • okay for the Wasp:

To me, the most interesting thing about this car would be the engine. As in, is it really a genuine 7X and, if so, what shape is it in? Setting aside body issues, the 7X engine should swing the value significantly.

  • I'd try to poke the frame from the bottom to the top where the rust is. I have a couple spots where the sides of the frame rails look nice but you can stick a screwdriver straight thru the top and thru the bottom.
