Brand X Owner Comments
The City of Torrance had a 50's rock and roll celebration yesterday evening. They had a main street blocked off and the Cruzin '50s car club and other local owners had their cars on display. I took my 51 Hornet Coupe. Had a constant crowd around the Twin-H. Little or no interest in the small block chevy's scattered around. I had come back from a stroll with my kids and had observed the end of an argument between two car enthusiasts. One guy kept insisting that my roof had been chopped. The other guy who had owned a 53 Hornet sedan in the sixties and informed him otherwise. It is amazing at how many car guys are so clueless about our Hudsons. Two guys mentioned the movie "Cars". It all shows how important it is to attend functions big and small and wave the Hudson flag. Even weekend trips to the local market are important.

Yep part of the neccesity to attend brand X shows and meets is to educate the public. There's a lot of false information about Hudsons (and other Orphan makes for that matter) and it takes us to spread the word about this long-unappreciated Marque.
P.S. They left the factory with 11" windows no need for chopping. You want em narrower? Add those vent shades to the windows. that'll reduce it anoth inch or 2. haha0 -
I have three orphans and always get a head turned and thumbs up.Any red-neck can get an old chevy with a small block. You have to search for an orphan. All I lack is a nice sedan0

Now Neils, ask them how many of them would put a flathead in their car? Curiousity is one thing......:-)
I do agree everyone should get their cars out, you hardly ever see them out around here! (was again at the Sat. nite cruisin and no Hudsons! GEEZ PEOPLE!!!!!) Maybe if they put a SBC in them, they could drive them around! lol

yeah, I got to think, being in that area of PA, there has got to be the highest level of hudson enthusiasm, more so than anywhere else in the country. For all of the great hudsons that come out, and the general comradery (sp?) that you guys all have together, it really and truly has to be a great place to live, and be interested in hudsons.
It would be great to have a similar "spirit" here, but most times you find the owners are few and far between. You pittsburg guys are lucky! I can hardly wait until there's another nationals out there. maybe if its in a few years, mine will be road worthy enough to make the long haul.... right now Carlisle is a bit too far for it.
I am envious....0 -

I don't know Jay, My hudson does great driving around here locally, and cruising, but until I do a rebuild (preferrably of a 54 308) I don't have enough faith in it's reliability.
I have a buddy that has two SS454 70 monte carlos, and let him drive my "flathead 6" the other day, and he was amazed at how hard the car pulled.
I guess my argument is if some of those guys with the SBC or even the BBC mindset would drive a flathead, maybe they would leave well enough alone.
what I do like, is that I wouldn't be investing in threads on this board in regards to how to put air conditioning in my hudson, rather it would of had it by now. I guess I can see the benefit in that regard.0 -
Mention "brand-x" meet here in New England or even having a meet out in public and you're liable to get lynched. There are a couple of owners that make an occasional "other kind" meet, but that ain't many out of 75 New England Chapter members - or Yankee chapter how many ever they have.
It's getting to the point Hudson people don't even bring a car to an NEC meet - if they come at all. "They're getting to old" or "It looked like rain" or "The road's to rough" or "it's to hot so I drove my brand-x with AC" (I can sympathize with that one tho.) Sad.
What's some of the excuses you people have heard.
Hudsonly,

Hudsonkid...
There is no such thing as road worthy enough when it comes to a Hudson. If it makes the local trips ... it will make the longer trips... the service items need to be kept up and the radiator and transmission need to be in order... but otherwise ... point the hood keep the service up and U will get where the nose is pointed. Several who come here will vouch for the fact that high mileage... worn to the bone Hudsons make great road cars... maybe not speed demons... and maybe you have to carry oil by the gallon jug... but they will carry U there and back. I drove a 54 Wasp with 200K plus miles back and forth from home to my teaching job 100 miles everyday for two years. That car then took me to Nebraska and later back to Texas. My friend Charlie has >300 Thousand miles on his 51 S 6 and when he comes home from Korea every year he pulls it from the storage... services the car... renews the gas charge and off to the Nationals he goes.
In the past I have had the opportunity to drive a Stepdown as an everyday driver... when I kept up with the maintenance ... I was never stranded. The worst thing that ever happened to me was water pump or generator failures...and I always carry a spare of each in the trunk...

Thanks Ken for the reassuring comments about the depenablity of Hudsons. Couple of years ago I was forced to drive 49 Commodore 6 as my daily driver. My wife walked out on my 2 kids and me,and took my road car, she'd fried the wire harness in my63 Lark and if I was gonna travel to sell my wares,I had to drive the Hudson.through the winter(unfortunately) and into spring. I acquired a very low mileage Astro van and gave Hudson a break. That is until July13th,05, van self-destrusted as result of an ignition switch flaw, strange as it seems. It burnt to the ground before it got put out 6:30am. I had no recourse and only liability. So I was back in my Hudson again. Parked in salt months and drove my 60 lark(already rusty) When salt left got back in Hudson. Never a problem, traveled 500 to 800hundred miles a week and loved every minute of it. May of this year, I inherited a 99 Explorer,so Commodore is used evenings, Saturdays and to church on Sunday. Sorry to be so windy, but I've had Hudsons in my family since birth and love the Hudsons and the way they drive, perform, and handle. Economy is forcing me to sell her,I also have a 50Comm.8 I'm doing a valve job on, so I won't be afoot Hudson wise.
Thanks you letting me share and I too am addicted to this forum and enjoy everything everyone has to say.
Thanks again

Jay, my misdirected accountant friend, I've seen rat rods with the original flathead V8's and straight 6's with period speed equipment and they seem to show a little more individualism and creativity than some of the crate engine "me too" boys. Seems to me individualism is what rodders were originally shooting for. Certainly, there is nothing wrong with the SBC crowd as it's an easy and cheap way to power a car. I know you have shown your good taste in purchasing a Hudson so I still have hope for you- LOL Niels0
