  • Thanks for the compliment on my cars. Enjoy this hobby and remember that some of the board members wake up at night wondering if the Krauts (Japs, or commies) are about to toss a grenade into their foxhole. I do.

    Have a nice day

    Steve
  • I like the Desoto as well it has nice clean lines. Great looking car I saw a black 55 and a red 55 as well so very nice. If one of those comes up I will be adding it to my collection.
  • Not that it matters, just I noticed it ironic that the upper group leader used the term "Krauts" whilst his subtitle is auf Deutsch.

I'm giving Steve the benefit of the doubt that he was referencing WWII wartime traumas, not being a bigot. He can correct me if I'm wrong.

James, looked at your website, cool car. That would have been cool for some functions I have attended (by I'm out West).

hudsonkid, if you are referring to me, my problem was not with anyone's opinion, it was the name calling and derogatory comments that were unneccesary. Someone can say "I wouldn't hot rod my step-down" which is much better than, "only an idiot would put a SBC in a Hudson." The reason I created the sub-forum, was to give those of us who want to discuss hot rodding issues, a place to discuss them without the nasty comments. It is true that the sub-forum has little traffic compared to this forum, but that is reflective of the current make-up of the HET membership. If the HET membership grows any "significant amount", I guarantee it will be because of the hot rod crowd and nothing else. This is true for almost any make (except maybe the exotics), even the orphans. Without an "all inclusive" HET club, it will die out eventually. I am in favor of a club embracing both the hot rodders and the purists equally, but I don't think the HET Club is there yet. In the year I have been a member, I have seen one cover on the WTN of a modified and NO articles about any of them. I believe the HET Club still doesn't get what it takes to increase membership. And though I usually enjoy some of the WTN, many of us can only take so many obituaries and WWII era articles. If the Club wants to significantly increase its membership, the WTN has got to change. As I've said before, if the Club wants to remain a pursits haven, then what they are doing is fine, but if you want to really increase membership and HUd awareness, they've got to change with the times. And a 7X, or 8X, or Twin H are not the only way to hot rod a Hud. Some members are inclusivists (is that a real word? lol), but many are not. And yet, at least around here, you never see them taking there cars anywhere on Cruise Nights. In many of the Friday and Saturday night local car shows I have attended locally, I have only seen the same two Hudsons, and they have only been at about 1/4 of the shows I have attended. I get tired of listening to many who are quick to bad mouth those of us that choose "brand x" components for our Huds (or non-Hud modifications, yet we are the ones (me, when mine gets running) who are more likely to drive ours around in public than most (I do understand that a few purists actually do drive theirs, but the number seems to be low).

Some will say, jsrail...just get thicker skin, but I say there is a way to have constructive criticisms and comments which don't have to be derogatory or nasty. And asking for an opinion is not asking for nasty comments. There is room for "all" in this Club, I just wish we started acting like it (though actually I think I have softened up a few of you! lol).

Gotta go to work, be good all!

Hi Jay, no wonder you didnt get my email.

As most of you guys know I am new to this site

but 51hornetA is write, this is why we all like this site to see the banter that goes on and sometimes I just about fall out of my chair with laughter. I would like to add my pennys worth:eek:

As some of you know I am rebuilding my 31coupe (Retro Rod) and from the dealings that I have had (with a heck of alot of purests and I thank them and wouldn't be any where as complete on the old girl as she is, not to say the infomation that all these old boys LOL have passed on to the cars benefit ) you will find them at most times very accomodating and are in whole are great people,as are you.

It's nice to see reading further on through the thread that different people are mellowing to alot of different ideas, as at the end of the day it has to be extremley benifical to all owners of hudsons and there sister Essex to get

there cars on the road and to be seen and to spread the word and for people to make there own choices and the more people amerge the old and new parts become available and to make the rebuilding(in what ever style) cheaper and easier as I know Iam waaaay over budget.:D

yeah, I wasn't sure what to make of the Kraut post, or even the german stuff. I was figuring that it was some reference to WWII, or something. Coming from german stock, I don't think I was offended. But I am too young to get it, I suppose.

I guess there are other nationalities that got worse non "PC" names, back in the earlier parts of the 20th century, as such.

Only other theory I got is perhaps with the WWII reference, foxholes, etc... he is just saying all of you guys are "old"

Nope, I don't love it or hate it. I feel the same about most of the late 50's to mid 60's cars, kind of gaudy , but has some potenial. Being a car guy, it takes a lot for me to hate a car.

I would check one out if I saw it at a show, but I wouldn't own one. Most cars from this time period seem very bland to me.

    Matt -riding the x-161 fence...
  • No, you didn't offend, I was just making an ironic observation.

And you're reference wasn't lost on me, as I reside in the History department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

AS for the questionable 50s and 60s vehicles, Think Chrysler Airflow, Edsel, 1959 Impala. . . Please don't let this open up a can of worms.

You can keep the Edsels and Impalas. An Airflow however is definatley a car I would own, I love the styling and innovation. Pretty sweet...

    Just my opinion,

    Matt
  • I do realize that, I was referring more to styling people either LOVE or HATE as opposed to chronology.

I agree about the Airflow, I like the styling.

Culp the Virgil Exner-penned 56-60 Plymouths in there (Is that a toilet seat on the '59 trunk?), and Pierce-Arrow's goofy headlights.
