i saw the movie cars it is too cool. what a tribute to HUDSON . a must have movie to own if you are a HUDSON NUT. i will bet money that HUDSON'S will take a jump in popularity . Hudson Dave

Dave, I'm with you.... I took my family and my sisters family in both my Hudsons. People in the theatre loved it.... The movie was outstanding. Hudson is finally getting all the marketing it deserved. This Movie is a 10.... Doc Hudson's Character couldn't have been Better. Paul NUeman did a fabulous Job.0

The best part of the Movie, along with the part where he becomes the crew cheif .I also loved how because of the crash ,Mcqueen learns, life isn't about staying bitter for things that are out of our control. The way the movie ended was powerful...0

I saw the movies with about forty or so Hudsonites at the Western Regional meet. Ivan Zarumba's race car was parked in front of the ciniplex along with 35 or so Hudsons. Movie goers were all over the cars with their cameras. Hearing Ivan's car rev and seeing it drive in was better than taking five Viagras with a penthouse magazine... that is one bad ass car.
As for the movie, you could not spend ten million dollars and have bought better advertising to promote Hudson. This is not a "bit" part. The Hudson Hornet is portrayed almost bigger than life and it has the most car oriented and powerful scenes. This movie literally tells the whole world about Hudson's famous racing history. Hudson and the Hudson Hornet has now been moved to the consciousness of mainstream America and beyond. That is how big this movie is for Hudson.0 -

We went to see it last night and it was awesome a fitting tribute to Hudson. I laughed at the end of the movie our theater cleared in about 20 seconds we sat and watched the credits roll and saw some really funny scenes. Great movie I have to go again tonight my daughter wants to see it again. When we got home last night we went into the garage and looked at our 51 Hornet. I could of swore I heard a contented sigh from the Hornet when we locked the garage......could have been the wind....0

Gotta see it again!!! The wife and I went on "date night" but we're taking our 6 year old gearhead tomorrow. I was so surprised that they used history so accurately. I agree with 51HornetA, the '51 convert in the garage gave a proud sigh tonight, again maybe the wind...0

I drove my '48 Commodore to see it. When I was leaving kids were yelling, "Look at that Hudson Hornet". You guys with 54's and above eat your heart out....0

My friend, Molly, and I went to see the movie Saturday night and we both thought it was absolutely fantastic. The attention to detail, and the nods to history, were incredible. For those of us who know the story, it's very poignant when "Lightning McQueen" asks "Doc" why he quit racing in '54 and "Doc" replies "I didn't quit, they quit me."

well... someday I was hoping to get myself a good (#1.5 to #2) restored '51 or '52 Hornet 4-door with Twin-H, 3-on-the-tree-with-O.D... now, thanks to this movie, WILL I EVER BE ABLE TO AFFORD ONE??! :rolleyes:

Great movie ! We saw it tonight, and the Adults liked it more than the kids. See it in the movie house first, as the sounds the cars make can't be duplicated on DVD in your home. (unless you have a $10,000 system)0

Hmmmn... All of DaimlerChrysler's success with the PT Cruiser, Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger retrocars... DaimlerChrysler also claims to own the "Hudson" trademark through its purchase of AMC... and now this... :eek: KINDA MAKES YA WONDER... :rolleyes: LOL 0 -
FANTASTIC!!! The dramic visual entrance by Doc literally gave me shivers. I wanted to yell out to every one in the theater that the championships in '51, '52, and '53 really were Hudson's (but I don't want to be THAT guy yelling in the theater, so I didn't). Let's hope people go home and GOOGLE "HUDSON HORNET" after seeing the movie. I'm taking my mom tomorrow and I'm driving my Hornet this time. SPEEDO CABLE BE DAMNED! By the way I'm starting a new thread requesting advise on a noisy speedo cable.0

FINALLY saw the movie on 6/12 and OMG!!!! INCREDIBLE!!!! Yeah, they sure did their homework on Hudson's history, all right!! I took my 74-year-old Dad to see it and he LOVED it!! He had a pretty hot '49 Super Six that he personally rebuilt back in the late '50's and had personally seen Marshall Teague and others race at Milwaukee in his youth, so for him it really kinda hit home.
This movie leaves all kinds of doors open for a sequel! New thread on that coming right up!0 -
Hi guys. I'm new here but a long-time Hudson owner. I guess this movie was exactly what I needed to inspire me to finish (actually completely re-do) the restoration of my 53HHCC.
Saw the movie on 6/11; it was awesome. The sequence that really made the movie for me was when "Doc" was out in the desert by himself. The camera pans low under the back of the car, looking up at the exhaust as the engine races, and the sound is unmistakably an in-line 6. Hollywood is notorious for screwing up engine sounds and I was so glad to hear that Hornet sound like it was supposed to. I don't know about the rest of you, but I definitely got goosebumps.
I give it 5 out of 5 stars.0 -

They recorded the sound of Ivan Zaremba's full-race 308, and also filmed him doing a drift on dirt to get the wheel placement just right. Attention to detail like this really made the movie special!0 -

Sam is right on. I've read a couple different articles on this. Pixar was targeting kids, gearheads and Nascar fans. They knew if it were to be a hit with the gearheads and Nascar then the details would have to be correct.0 -
I talked to Ivan for quite a bit at the Western Regional. Really nice guy. Told me they took pictures of every inch of his car, recorded sounds, filmed it driving, was a pretty exhaustive process, but sure looked good when it was done.0

We went to see the movie (me, hudsondad, my wife, and my little girl, who is 4 1/2, so we had a reason) We drove the hudson to the theater in town, and parked right in front. I tried to get hudsondad to drive the wasp, but that was a no go. Anyway, the movie was terrific, had a great time. It really put it all in perspective, and I really hope people get it, and the real story of hudson gets out there, and the accomplishments of the car get recognized for what it was.

How awesome was that? maybe some of these die hard nascar fans will realize there was a dominant force in racing, before ford and chevy, and hudson will finally get the much overdue recognition it deserves.
after seeing the movie, i had the same feeling I had after watching the Tucker movie in the theater back in 86, in relation to what it is probably going to do to the prices of hudsons.0 -

Just like real estate values increasing exponenially- people love it until they try to buy another house. You can't have it both ways. There is always a negative. If I wanted a low value, ugly car, I would not be into Hudsons.0 -
Finally got the chance to take my wife and son to see "Cars." I know most of you have already seen it, but timing is everything when you have a toddler. My son wore his Lightning T-shirt and carried his "Sheriff" keychain flashlight (his small "Doc" car has no light and therefore not as interesting :-)); and I wore my eBay Hudson T-shirt.
We had a great time and the movie was excellent as already noted on this forum many times. This was my son's first theater movie, and except for some extremely loud scenes and some boredom during the non-action type scenes, he did great! (3y.o.'s have trouble following story lines, lol).
Even my wife (who is more into teaching Chopin and Bach) liked the movie alot.
So nothing new here, just adding my congrats to the movie makers on this one. I did love the George Carlin and Cheech Marin characters!

I took my 54 Blue Coupe to the 4 of July parade and everyone of the kids knew what I was driving and its name. Hornet, Doc Hudson, and winner of three cup awards. I put the eyes in the windshield and cut slits to see where I was driving so as not to hit anyone or thing. The Kids and Moms were great. but the Dads didn't have a clue. At least the dads that did not go to the movies. What a rush to know that we have a new generation that can spot and identify a Hudson. What a movie. I will buy a DVD when it comes out.... Best to all those who saw and enjoyed this movie..

Well, this thread's been dead for a while but I just found a theatre that was still playing the move (and for $3 yet) and I LOVED it. I don't know when I've enjoyed a movie so much. And, you can't buy that kind of publicity!0

You are absolutely right. You can't buy publicity like that. Though the movie is mot showing in this area right now, I keep finding little things promoting the movie. I try to get the stuff with DOC hudson on it and have found several things in the last couple of weeks. I have a Ball Cap with DOC embroidered on it, a rubber wrist band, a Keychain , a Jigsaw puzzle, Belly Washers juice drink caps shaped like a DOC,and of course a couple of the die cast cars. Just last week I found some light up ink pens with Doc on the top. Then Yesterday my Wife found a couple of clear rubber balls with an image of Doc inside, at the BP station down the road.
Nothing except the ball cap cost more than 2 or 3 dollars. I have seen the slot car set but didn't want to spend that much (I'll find one on sale somewhere).
It's not much but I like my little collection.

Yep CARS is showing at the cheap seats in my town for $2.00. I'll probably buy the DVD when it comes out and I was thinking maybe play it on a TV rigged up to a battery jumper pack with a power inverter when I display my Hudson at car shows.0

That is a great idea. A looped tape with constantly played Doc Hudson scenes would be outstanding. Regarding mechandising, it is nothing short of amazing what this movie has done for Hudson recognition.0
