What color paint should bu used to repaint the embossed (stamped in) "red" triangle in Hudson hubcaps? Maroon? Dark red? Something specific?

Thanks

K-gap sells a set of 4 Red triangle vinyl decals for the hub caps. A lot easier than trying to carefully paint them! They are $1.00 ea., $4.00 per set.

  • Here is a dumb question. How do you attach those vinyl decals to the hubcap and keep them stuck?

They have adhesive on the backs!
  • be mindful, I heard somewhere, I think on this board, that the red used on 53's is different that the red used in earlier 50-52 models. I think the red is darker, more maroon, and it's the same story for the hornet emblems as well. Not sure but are the aircleaners on the twin h set-up the same?

    As far as 54's I don't know....

and those K-GAP triangle stickers.... awesome!

the adhesive does do a good job.

i have k-gap centers on my wire wheels, they use the same decals. ask press kale if he did anything special, they've been on for 16 years and still look great. be sure your surface is clean and free of wax. probably use some alcohol and perhaps clean the hubcap with something.

HudsonKid is correct.. the 53's are darker. Also, 54's had blue curcles with an emblem in the center of the cap

    doh!

I forgot entirely what 54 hubcaps look like! I feel stoopid! Oh well. I was sitting here the other night when I responded thinking okay, 50-52 are bright red, 53 are maroon, now what color is the triangle on a 54, and for the life of me, i couldn't draw a picture from memory....

Another tidbit, are the commodore/hornet taillight emblems, 48-49 are black, 50, are red, but are 51 red as well?
  • 51 are red as well. My 51 Hornet tail light emblems are red.

Is the red opaque, or does light from the bulbs come through? Mine are clear with silver lettering in the crest. Must be replacements. Walt-LA
  • On mine the emblems are red opaque. I am told that the replacements have to be painted either Black for the Commodore or Red for the Hornet. They come generic you need to paint yourself.

Walt no light from the tail lights on the 48-51 Commodores or Hornets is meant to shine up to the plastic ornament. If you can rig them up that way because you want to -go for it!

'Thanks Hudzilla. Believe I'll leave them dark. Might look too much like pirates of the Carribean or sumpin' with two small red eyes squintin' at ye. On the other hand, I may get a couple of magnetic LED lights for those magical nights on I-12, aka Mig Alley. Walt-LA

For lettering hubcaps, we apply colored adhesive-backed vinyl used in sign making that can be found at art supply shops. Cut the piece oversize, press in firmly to all corners, trim with a sharp exacto knife and peel away excess. This has worked great for our 36 Hudson 8, 37 Terr. and the Hornet has had it on for over 10 years with no peeling and is much nicer than most re-painted ones that you see.
