Pedal assembly slop
I have a lot of play in the housing around the break and clutch pedal assembly shaft in my '46 pickup. Is there a bushing that can be replaced in there to correct this play? Right now as you press on the clutch pedal it leans into the stearing colum.

Have you simply checked for a loose bolt?
Regarding a bushing, I've been told that a Delco starter motor center support plate bushing from the 1960's or newer, would replace the bushing for the shaft. I can't give you a number, but this item would be from a truck or bus. If you can get the old assembly off and remove the bushing, you could take it to an auto electric place, or perhaps a large truck repair shop would be familiar with it. This item (again, I'm told) is 2 ft. long.0 -
That is the assembly, just need to tighten up the play in the pivot shaft for the levers. I'm not sure where the part from Kgap fits in the assembly, I will pull out my old catalog and see if I can see what the part is.
And Jon, is there a bolt that I am not finding that would take up the play. I will take a closer look to see what I can find.

No particular bolt controls the play. I just thought that one of the mounting bolts would be loose and the whole assembly might be moving.
When you said the clutch pedal leaned into the steering wheel I wondered: you HAVE tightened the bolt that locks the pedal itself to the arm of the assembly, right?0 -
Yes, the assembly is tight to the frame and the pedals are tight to the levers. Its the shaft that the two levers are commected to that pivots in the assembly that has the play.0

Sure sounds like worn out bushings. Not to compare apples to oranges (but I'm gonna, anyway!), but my '49 clutch cross shaft bushings were so worn that I had about 3/4" 'lost' motion at the pedal. It would move that far before starting to move the linkage at the other end of the cross shaft. The cross shaft bushings (one in each end) were worn down so that there was about .030" extra clearance where there should've been .001-.002", so even though it wasn't all that much slop at the bushing, it sure became a lot back at the pedal.0 -
I believe the shaft is 3/4 inch steel stock that can be replaced. After a while not only the bushing gets worn but put grooves into the shaft also. Just drill out the tapper pin and you can repace the shaft with metal from any hardware store just cut to length needed.0

OK guys, have taken the assembly appart and have found the bushings shot, the shaft is worn also. Any ideas where I can get replacement bushings? Thanks all0

The bushings are bronze or oil lite material, 3/4 ID about 3/4 long, thin wall. Thanks for your help.

Just called K-Gap and the item is a rubber bushing, not the one I need but thanks. I am going to buy some bronze material and machine it to size. Thanks for your help.
