Suckered on Ebay

I just got suckered on Ebay. I put up a few of the Hudson shirts I had made. Buy it now price of $15 or "Best Offer" I recieved and email from a gentleman which I read as well as two other people as he was offering $14.95 a shirt plus $3 shipping and handling. So I agreed........Well I was wrong cause the email I got back from Ebay states I sold him 3 shirts at $4.95. I called Ebay explained the issue and their rep agreed that the way the offer was written was decieving. I sent an email to the "buyer" explaining that I could not sell him shirts at $4.95 a piece. His reply was that I made an agreement. Im so angry right now.

    Matt,

I wonder who the buyer (?) is? Couldn't be a Hudson Guy! Please publish his ebay screen name for the rest of us to see. We need to identify the creeps in our midst.

    Thanks, Dave W.
  • Any reasonable guy would not expect to get three shirts for that price, especially after you explained the mistake with him. What is morally right and legally right can sometimes be different. Dispute it w e-bay, screw the guy. and don't worry about any negative feedback. Not many people really care about a single negative anyway.
  • I thinks its ebays fault. You showed a quantity available of 50 and unit price $14.95. If someone made you an offer on all 50 would ebay divide $14.95 by 50. Sounds to me like ebay needs a head check.
  • Don't get me going on ebay. Most of you will probably remember my recent Hudson bumper fiasco. In the end, I lost $50.00 to correct someone elses mistake. IMHO, reason, morals and legality often don't apply when dealing on ebay. It's like gambling, don't bet more than you can "afford" to lose.
  • I noticed the "buyer" appears to be out of the US. The zip I was sent for shipping is ten digits long.

  • There's your "out" on the deal. Your auction clearly states that you ship to the United States only.

eBay buyers can be tricky, but it's UPS that you really have to watch out for. They will screw you any chance they get. I shipped a synthesizer last month and they stuck a forklift end into the box. Even though it was their fault, they had their "experts" claim the forklift hole was my fault. I ended up sending the customer his money back, and UPS wants to charge me to get my broken keyboard back!
  • Royer,

File a complaint with your local State Attorney's Office and let them resolve the issue with UPS. It's free and only takes a few minutes.

Sounds like my wife and I are the only people left in the world who have bought and sold over 1,000 items on eBay with a minimum of problems. Hmmm...

    Yep! royer is correct!

Your bidder violated the terms of the auction for shipping - null and void transaction - end of story...even ebay will back you on that point alone!

The loser..er..bidder...might give you bad feedback but you are covered and in the right for cancelling the sale.
  • The link shows that shipping is accepted to more places than just US. Also when you accept a best offer you are supposedly accepting that you will ship to the person. The big problem here is ebay. Who is going to list one item for 14.95 then sell 3 for the same price. ebay should have stepped up and said this is not right.

I have used ebay a bit and never really had any problems after the two times I was screwed on shipping now I buy nothing unless I get a shipping quote. But I know for sure ebay does not help you out of these problems they just don't want to take the time because bottom line it costs them money to mediate this stuff. They hope the 100,000 bad cases per year are drowned out by the million good ones.

gotta look lower on the page...so the listing really says both...I'd still cancel the deal on that basis though...

  • yup, the shipping to the US only is your way out. Tell the guy you cannot ship to addresses outside the US, and he will have to take it up with eBay.

If it were me, they will never get a shirt.

Better yet...heh...heh...go to a local thrift store - buy yourself 3 cheap tshirts and write "Hudson" on them with a permanent marker and send them off! :D If you really want to mess with the guy - say the declared value is 300.00 and he'll have to pay import taxes on that amount...

I read about 1 ebay seller who had someone trying to scam him on a laptop and had sent a bogus cashiers check and the scammer had asked him to state the value at 20.00 for import tax purposes - so he made a "laptop" from a notebook binder and glued some keys on it then wrote "laptop" on it. Sent it to England with the value stated at 2000.00 USD.

The package was delivered and taxes paid... and guess what? no reposnse back from the "scammed scammer" hehe....
