Better get a MONEY-BACK warranty-GUARANTEE ***BEFORE*** you buy it because the Mercury is hard as a rock and it will not work, IMHO; at least that's the impression I reached when I could not get mine (NOS, in the Hudson box) to work. I suggest that you have the seller test it and post that it IS working correctly and that if it does not work properly that he or she will return your money PLUS SHPG in case it fails to work properly upon arrival, as designed to work.
PS: I know because I bought one and it failed to work automatically - you'll have to modify it & install a manual switch for it to work AT ALL!!

The 51-54 Hudson Accessory Glove box light was operated by a switch. The opening in the dash on these years is stamped with a mounting point that will either have a rubber bumper or a switch which activates the accessory lamp installed. The part number for the switch is 226244 which will be preceeded by the two letters which signify the model year run for the switch. All are interchangeable. Lamp uses a Mazda 55 bulb. The automatic feature is due to the switch contacts working when the door is open and breaking with the door closed. See the pictures of a switch and light as were in these kits.0 -

Thanks for the info and photos. I have seen the Hudson version of the part on ebay as well as the Hudson installation instructions. The kit has a mercury switch which mounts on glove box door.0 -
