Just got back from the 5th Fairfield County Concours de elegance. My 49 C-8 limped in and limped out due to my Ignition woes...

However , My Day got better when I was told of the row that I was in. At the Head of the row was a 54 Italia.

I read about this car in the New York Times about 2 weeks ago. The story was about the guy who recently bought the car from the Widow of the owner. You see it seems that the guy who bought the car had done auto body repair on the car in 1967 in Upstate Ct. He had always taken a keen interest in the car and always offered to do any and all work on the car for the family over the years. About 6mnt's ago he received a call from the Widow asking to put new coker tires on the car. You see that bothered the caretaker because it still had it's originals on the car . It seems the car only has 22,000 original miles. Being a good sport Wayne ( the caretaker) Showed up at the Widow's house to pick up the car to get the tires and changed. However, when he got there she asked him if he wanted to buy the car. This of course was a lifelong dream for him. They agreed on a price and the deal was done.

Well I got to see the car first hand today and I can vouch for the fact that this car is 100% completely original right down to the tires.... What a treat.. Wayne Carinni of Portland CT. is the new owner...... Nothing has been changed on the car from the day the car rolled out of the showroom... Unreal...................

Portland, CT?? Gotta be Hazel Robinson - the car belonged to her brother, not husband, Ray Robinson. He passed away quite a while back - I didn't think she'd ever let that Italia go.

As I recall he bought the car from a Hartford dealer back when it came out.

Ray also had a '53 Hornet Sedan that, as far as I know, Hazel still has - don't think it's been out of the garage in years.

There are times in your life that you remember the sheer delight of that time... meeting and talking with Ray Robinson about his Italia at the 1976 Hudson National was one of those times for me. Ray let me sit in his car then and after a few minutes of sitting in the drivers seat talking with him, he asked if I would like to go for a ride? Would I... around the hotel area we went all too quick a ride but a ride in the lowest mileage original Italia in existance was mind boggling for me! Ray was a gentleman and took time to listen to and answer all the questions for a young Hudsonite... what a time .

    Rest in Peace Ray

See the attached picture ... the man next to the car is Ray Robinson in 1976 standing next to the Italia. BTW, I think that the car behind Ray is his 1953 Sedan.

It is definately Hazel Roinsons' car. I saw her at a cruise night in Colchester, Ct about 1 month ago. She drove her 53 Hornet. She told me that she called F40 Motor Sports in Portland CT to replace the tires on the Italia. The owners son came over and looked at the car and checked into pricing new tires. He remembered the car as a youngster and told Hazel that since the car is the most original Italia in existance that she should just leave the original tires on the car. He also told her that he would love to own it. A deal was made and he now owns it. He trailers ther car to shows and does not plan on doing any restoration work on the car just leave it as an all original included tires that are very dry rotted.

That's the car and the story alright. The new owner, ( Wayne Carinni ) Said that he had been in touch with Hazel and the family since 67 when he did the driver's side fender repair.

There was an article written about the sale of the car in the Times, I'll try to get a copy..
