Babbit

I am getting ready to babbit a set of rods for my 27 Hudson. My machinists handbook lists 16 seperate formulas for babbit, from very soft to very hard. When I used to do rods for A's and T's I guess I wasn't smart enough to worry about hardness, I just took what I could get and used it. That was a very long time ago. So, I'm curious and asking for a few opinions on a very specialized subject.

Thanks Hudsonly

    Blackie,

As you know, Model A Fxxds use babbit in both rods and mains. Try either www.secretsofspeed.com/ or www.ahooga.com and search "babbit". You will probably find more information than you wanted to know! A rebuilder in Arizona did my warmed over a four banger using diesel grade babbit. he swears by it..I have higher than stock compression and have kicked it kinda hard and it is still in there.

There was a web site that was a very in depth engineering type paper on the subject. Especially if you want to do the job yourself. I will try to find it and post it here. Hudsonly, Dave w.

The question of babbit came up at a Hudson gathering last weekend, and the recommendation was always to use diesel grade babbit.
