Working on a 54 Hornet, after driving about 45 minutes the Two/one downshift is very harsh. Any one ever come accross this?

try adjusting the throttle pressure rod. offhand i think lengthening it a little should correct it though it may be the other way. are your upshifts too quick as well?
  • Does anyone have an "easy" method of adjusting the rod or is it just trial and error? Is the adjustment the same for the Borg Warner trans?
  • Upshifts are OK
  • To adjust the throttle rod , I take a set of wrenchs with me on the road and adjust it until it's good.
  • Usually it doesn't take 45 minutes to show up, it sounds like it could be too much throttle pressure. Is the engine idling a little too fast? that is also a symptom. I would start at square one with a complete linkage adjustment . Ken Cates stepdown page has the correct procedure, because it all has to work together to work right . Hudsonly Lou Cote
