Tire size on Terraplane

I want to upgrade to radials on a 1936 Terraplane that currently has 6:00 x 16 bias ply.
The first thought was to put 6:50 x 16" on, as the Hudson Eights of that year used them, so they should fit fine.
Then I thought 7:00 x 16" would give more rubber on the road, and slightly increase cruising speed.
The factory shop manual lists 5:50 x 17" as standard on the Terraplane, with the 6:00 x 16 Optional.
Not having seen a 17", my thinking is that it might be similar in diameter to the 700 x 16.
Question: Has anyone actually put 7:00 x 16" radials on a 1936 Terraplane (or Hudson) without inteference when turning corners w/ the front wheels?
Thanks in advance for any input.

You need to check the rim width of the H8 compared to T. I have found too big a tyre reduces the handling and responsiveness so would caution against a 7.00-16.
My '36 T runs some Indian made 6 ply 6.00-16 bias tyres and they handle very well even with brisk cornering and are quiet too. Actually the '36 T is a very nice handling car and can get around corners quite quickly. I can't see any reason based on my experience to go to radials.0 -
I upgraded to 650 x 16's (bias ply) on my '37 T (though of course this is a different car from the '36). There is some rubbing on the drag link at extreme turns but one only encounters this when parking. The 650's give a softer ride than the 600's in my opinion and -- being larger diameter -- gain you a bit of speed on the highway. I seem to sense better handling than before; they're not quite so skinny as the original tires and I feel the 'truckers' ruts' a bit less than with the 600's. I think they are much cooler looking than radials, too, expecially in the diamond tread Goodyears!0
