Interested in your thoughts, this is the 31 Essex I have been playing with 4 the last 23 years, and I am trying to decide what to paint her with the main colour to be brrrright yellow and some other colour, we need to make her stand out, as we have the need to spread the word
I hope the file stays attached
She at a place like Boyds or Foose
They wanted to chop 3" off the top but I wont allow it as there isnt too many around and only 2 down this way that I know off

Personally I would look at some of the color pictures of the Aurbuns of the 1930-1936 years. They had a nack for picking two totally different colors and using them together to come up with some outstanding schemes.
I really like the light yellow with bright orange they did on the edges of the fenders, the belt line moulding just above the door handle and sunvisor.
there is bound to be some good high qualtity pistures on the internet somewere showing these.

It is a stock frame that has been boxed and a whole lot more steel added
this is set up with 350/350 combonation and a 9" the old girl is 4 wheel discs when we take the body off willm post pics as I have just figured that out how to do this
The front suspension is hand made st/steel a arms and all 4 corners sit on Carrea polished coil overs and has a st/steel gas tank to match the original
She will sit reasonably low once back on the ground, would like to set her on some 18x10 rears and 17x8 fronts ( Boyds or American racing)
I still wouldnt be where I am today in the finishing, without the help of a lot of members out there, especially the finishing bits a big THANKS0 -

There are several others that share the same type of paint scheme that are on the previous pages that are sedans. There is also a silver/black boattail a few pages foward of the silver/red one.
The yellow & orange one I was looking for I can't find.

thanks for that, saw the stutz in one of the pics looked cool, maybe I should have cut 3" off the the roof as that Stutz looked like it had the stance, wouldnt get too much wind restistance of that roof LOL0

just got a new pic with the other rear guard finished, will be installing new vallances and running boardto l/h/s later this week and finish l/h/s front guard, they have been also working on the front vallance which is 2/3 finished0

it has a 94 (Holden)commodore power rack or as you guys know it from up there, the Pontiac GTO 2 door coupe was made by Holden and badged Pontiac and exported to the States , I think they stopped selling them last year, A guy buy the name Frank Wiggs set it all up ( he was desiging ford GT40 chassis down here and exporting them) we have only massaged the fire wall for the Distributer, it all to fits within the stock shell, you can see how we set the front up may gives you some Ideas, its fitted with dics from early Holden as well as early Holden drop spindles, I will need to get pics when the body comes off, it also has 9" with discs and 4 bar with a watts linkage to stop the body roll, Inhind sight it could have been abit better but now I want to be on the road and enjoying, will keep the pics coming

How did you make out with the hood ornament and rumble seat handle?
I think you did OK without a chop top. These cars have a naturally agressive stance already. Did you look at the original 2 tone color combinations? Some are pretty interesting.

Yes I have the hood ornament and spent alot of time repairing it to a stage where I am very happy with it,and have it at the casters as we speak and having a whole lot produced, with the lost wax process, are you interested?Had no joy with the 31 hudson handle but are in contact with Will Moon and he is talking about producing some in s/steel when the weather settles in up there, but still keeping my eyes open
As to the original colour combinations I are still looking at it, need to see actual colour swatches, This baby is goning to be shiny as a pin
I did see a 31 boattial rodster on Freds garage in a tangerine color that looked pretty good,with chocalate colour guards, but that was about 9 months ago.
Iam still waiting for the 31 surround to turn up which I paid for 3-4 months ago from a member and are starting to get worried, I do have 1 but it will need quite alot of work, but again a member Ray Crowler sent it to me for free when he sent down a mesh insert for her, a big cheers to him
I think I have some cad drawings of the suspension down with the car as we have to submit them to our warrant of fitness certifiers,could be some use to some one looking at changing things around!

they are back on the old girl again, replaced parts of the front cowl as they found a little rust and and some bog
I told them that I am going have to sell my body to get enough money together to pay for it all.
Freightening stuff
but they are doing a marvalous job
they are going to close the gap up at the door to cowl junction as other side is only about (in your terms) 3/16" or 4-5mm
going to see her in 3 weeks and all the front gaurd and running board will all be finished ready to take some running board material I got from K-Gap
and seat up the drivers (buckets) seat to suit my short legs so I can see over the front LOL

Mike, did you have to do any body work to the lower parts of the body, example bottom of the door , quarters..... if so, how did you manage to find the replacement parts or did you have to bead roll the parts?0

Kool 30, saw some pics of yours the other day from your post pretty tasty,All the new parts have been made by the body shop,rear gaurds are 2" wider than factory but using the original swags, but if you look at a 31 boat tail they are about the same size, what you see in the pics are all bead rolled as well as hand done and they have measured the hights all cormers and running boards and will be better that factory once they finish, going down next weekend to see in person the finished panells, they say will be straight enough to go in super high gloss black, but not my colour , they will start on the rumble seat area soon, its in good shape but removing some steel around rear jionting strips as there is stressing and lead in the steel, the old girl supposed to do 160mph @ 6000 rpms with the gearing setup, maybe the old girl might fly ,that would be a good story for the forum LOL0

Here are some new pictures of the rear end as we have just moved it back an extra 2" all the gas tank is out as a lot of the stuff has been sent to the painters
I show some pics as to how we set up the saftey belt hangers for certification as pretty strict here
a couple pictures of the front end all is looking pretty dusty but the chassis will be to the painters in a couple weeks and we will reassemble all nice and shiny

took some weight out and added a lot of steel back in
