I don't know how many of you follow the street rod forum but my post on the front anti sway bar may have just netted you all some great information!
7XPacemaker has used an AMC front anti sway bar kit to replace the rather enemic one that comes stock with the Hudson stepdown.
I'll try to come up with some exact part #'s as I go through this but the stock front anti-sway bar is only 3/4" in diameter...you can get 1" or 1-1/8" replacements that should bolt straight in for the most part and make a HUGE difference in handling for vehicle already known for its handling...
I know this is probably not an option for those showing/restoring orginal cars at a concours level but for weekend or daily drivers I Just thought I'd let you know that maybe something is out there that would make a big improvement to handling but not take away from the look or intent of the more original style cars...

I'm also very interested in this modification as well. I want the '49 to be much stiffer than the Wasp.
However, I must say that the Wasp is pretty stiff since I put all new bushings in the swaybar - per K-Gap - and new shocks. It also raised the front end a good 1". I was pretty taken aback by the difference actually.
A beefier swaybar, would probably eliminate front end plowing altogether. Find a way to mount the former front swaybar on the rear end, I believe these old cars would handle like a Ferrari.
Thanks,

Hey, Hudsonator! Have you been submerged beneath the polar ice cap or what?0

As to swaybars, Quickor made me one for my 54 Hornet, 1 inch at a cost of $150.00. Also a front swaybar for 62 -64 Impala is very close and are available in sizes of 1 inch and probably larger. Quickor is in suburban Portland , Oregon. To find a V/8 pacer Gremlin to get the front bar from could be hard as many have went to the crusher. Hudsonly Lou Cote0

Hello all, a quick perusal of Addco.com and P-S-T.com showed stabilizer bars available for 70's AMC's, in 1 inch, and 1-1/8 also. Mike0

Hey Ed,
I have been submerged, too many nuiances to list. A little light of day is peeking through and hopefully I can get back on the projects this winter.
It's been a really, really tough summer.
BUT, I have been up to some hudson related shenanagans.

The stroker and flow bench work are on hold, simply because I don't have the time at present - nor the dinero. Actually time is more at a premium than anything else.
The engine in the link above is bone stock with the exception of intake and exhaust. Dad did concoct a device for centering up the head gasket, that I didn't get pictures of, but works like a charm. I'll try to devote some time to explaining the situation and post it here sometime in the near future. I've always been concerned about the gasket's ability to "walk" around during an install - we have that whooped now.

I asked Quickor a while back about reproducing a bar in 1-1/8" since I have a heavier engine up front. They quoted me $180 which doesn't seem so bad. How much does the 1" bar help?0 -

I seriously doubt there would be much difference between a 1" or 1-1/8" diameter bar.
But the difference between the wimpy 3/4" stocker to 1" should be a significant change.0 -

Mark...
Regardless of the ... summer setbacks..., U and Dad have done what we corresponded about over the past few years. I hope you get to the RedNeck Rumble and more importantly, congradulations on sticking to the plan. Good to see your Hudson story on the other board. U and Dad have lots to share with all who come here to seek assistance. Happy Hudsonin'
Thanks for sharing your experiences....

Pretty sure that torsional stiffness increases on the fourth power when increasing diameter in the same material.0 -

Does anyone think that if the front sway bar was too big there might be some issues with twisting/straining the front sub-frame connectors?0
