The latest WTN has an article describing the many Hudson-related activities in and around the giant AACA meet at Hershey, Pa. this year, from Wednesday, October 4 through Saturday, Oct. 7 (and continuing Sunday, Oct. 8 in nearby Carlisle). Be sure to read it, if you're Hershey-bound this year.

The H-E-T hospitality and recruitment booth will be set up in Hershey on the red field (in front of the old stadium) at spaces RNE 24-25. Stop in for a donut and coffee, to meet your friends, to park your heavy flea market items behind the counter for the afternoon, to sit a spell in our easy chairs, and to leave a message on our corkboard. You can also join the Club or renew your membership.

We need volunteers to work the booth from Wednesday through Saturday. If you can offer us two or three hours (or more), you'd be doing the Club and yourself a service. It gives you a great respite from trudging around all day, and you'll find that the Hudson world (literally!) comes to you! We have visitors from all over the country as well as many foreign countries. Maybe you can offer a helpful suggestion to some Hudsonite in need of technical help, or even recruit a new member or two! If you plan to spend some time hunting for parts, the booth is a great 'home base' to sit and rest a spell before heading out once again.

We also like to display nice Hudson-built vehicles at our booth (to attract passers-by). This makes for a marvellous way to attend Hershey, because you can drive right into the middle of the flea market and park for free! As of now, most slots are filled, but drop us a line and maybe we can fit your car in.

For further information e-mail me at HETdetailed@verizon.net (drop the HET before sending). ---Jon Battle

What's going on in Carlisle on Sunday?

I'll be there but not sure on which days yet, if not all of them. I am willing to help once I join the club at the show ;-) but I will have my baby boy or maybe my daughter so not sure if I will be of much help with them along. I'll do what I can though.

On Sunday in Carlisle we have our own little swap meet in the rear parking lot. It usually starts at daybreak and ends around noontime.

Herb -- put the kids to work behind the counter! Start 'em young, say I!

As to the events, they mostly take place at the Quality Inn in Carlisle -- see page 19 of the Sept./Oct. WTN for a listing. Our editor reprinted it here on the Forum: http://www.classiccar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7273

I tried  but as usual the show on Sat wasn't worth the drive or 10 bucks for parking. I forgot I promised myself never to go to Hershey again because of the poor organization of the spaces and the early shut down on Sat. I did not see the club tent anywhere (or at least where I thought the program said it was supose to be) I guess I'll have to meet up with some of you next year. I am planning to go to the hotel tomorrow morning, but not expecting much so that I'm not too disappointed after driving up there at 6:30 AM.

Any chance I can join the club at the swap meet so I know what's going on next year (I'll probably only participate in the club stuff, I don't want to waste or give any more money to Hershey and this show)? I would have gone to dinner tonight, but missed the post with the activities untill I looked here tonight, totally my fault. I should have joined the club sooner.

WHY DOES HERSHEY ONLY GO TILL SATURDAY AND NOT SUNDAY??? THIS REALLY MESSES UP THE BEST DAY OF THE SHOW. ALL THE VENDORS CLOSE UP EARLY ON THE LAST DAY. I GUESS IT'S DESIGNED MORE FOR THE RETIRED FOLKS WHO DON'T HAVE TO WORK DURING THE WEEK.

Sorry for venting, really wanted to have a good day at the show and it really was disappointing

Just guessing here, but since its in Pennslyvania Dutch country, is it because of the dictates of the Dutch Reform Church? A very large tractor and steam show in northwest Washington runs from Wednesday through Saturday, and its because the organizers (and lots of the participants) are Dutch Reform, and they have to be home or doing church activities only from sundown Saturday through Sunday. It does make it inconvenient for the general public, and at the tractor show, they try to go as long as they can on Saturday, but its best not to be in the way when they're all sprinting out of there late Saturday afternoon. Unlike Hershey, they can leave their stuff at their secured grounds until Monday.

Just A Little Input From The Western Part Of Penna. The Hershey Show Was Graet As Always Yes We Are Tired But I Think The Show was GrEAt With Alot OF Nice Cars And Trucks AT THE SHOW And The Flea Market Was Bigger Than Ever As For The Show Ending On Saturday It Has Been That Way For Over 45 Years All The Clubs Have A Meet On Sunday Just Like The Hudson Club Does In Carsile And I Think Way Back When The Hershey Show Got Off The Ground The State Had A Blue Law That Limited The Show To End On Sat.

I want to thank Jon Battle and all the crew of the HET trailer. They worked very hard to spread the good word about our Club. I heard many complements about the friendly nature of those who manned the booth. They were rewarded for their efforts by signing up a bunch of new members and raising some much needed money for the trailer fund. Keep up the good work guys!
  • Sorry,

I wasn't trying to take away from the great job the club does at the show. It was my fault I was sick during the best show days. I forgot from past experience that Saturday is never really a good day to go. As a new comer to Hershey I still think it is poorly organized for the un-experienced. I ran into many people trying to find vendor spots and they looked just as confused as I after looking at the program. My goal was to at least meet some of you, work the booth a little, and finally sign up in person for the national club. I'm really not good at snail (USPS) mail memberships and the club does not take electronic payment for memberships. I'll do my best to get my membership in the mail tomorrow (fingers crossed I can find a stamp and envelope), so I'm a little better prepared next year for all the club events in my area.

    Mr. Mooney-

Don't let your Hershey experience get you down. It's not the only game in town. My best experiences and part-searching have come from chapter meets, and from the network I've developed from club members. The HET club is just the greatest club in the world and I'll let you in on a secret: it's not just the cars (although they're mighty fine, too), it's the people you meet and the overall camraderie that makes this club stand above the rest.

I'm only on my 2nd Hudson and would not even dream of trying to do a full restoration on a rare automobile without the support of Hudson club members. There's just a wealth of valuable experience and knowledge (and parts!) within the club to help the new guys like me and without them, I surely would be working on my next Brand-X, ho-hum.

Like Lewis said, nothing could be easier than to join and you get SO MUCH in return.
  • I spent two full days at Hershey on Wednesday and Thursday. I got to park in the white field beside the car corale both days. I thought the vendor fields were laid out well and nice to be on macadam. The exception was the Orange field which was across the road and behind the stadium. I didn't find it the first time thru and had to go back and look for it. Thought there were a lot of empty spaces or ones that were just parked on and also thought the car corale was weak this year. I didn't go up on Friday (wet) or Saturday so maybe it filled up. If you're ONLY looking for Hudson parts, You're better off driving up to Carlisle on Sunday morning to the local gathering at the motel, plus you get to meet a lot of great people who share your interest.

I went to Hershey on Fri. The layout was much different than 2 years ago so I was lost for part of the morning trying to figure out where stuff was. Found the HET spot, got a donut and said hello, checked out the 2 Huds there. A lot of empty spots and many vendors were pulling out in the morning. Went to find Ken Ammans spot and he was not there unfortunately. I did find the Orange field and I felt sorry for those vendors it was a swamp after the rain. If I go next year it will definitely be Wed. or Thurs. Fri. now is starting to look like what Sat. used to be. Supposedly everything is supposed to be on one side of the road. I used to know the old White field pretty well as well as some of the other spots now???

Just wanted to chime in on my experience at Hershey. I was in the area on other business, and as a result I had some time on Saturday to check out Hershey for my first time. I didn't get there until after noon, and found that the program tents were closed, so I couldn't get a map. So I pretty much spent the next several hours walking around randomly to find that most of the vendors were either gone or packing up. I saw the auction cars waiting in line, although I didn't have the 'credentials' to actually go in and watch the auction. I saw the car corral across the highway, but didn't have the time to even think about going all the way over there to look. Everything is miles apart. Didn't find the HET booth. Never did find the car show, either. Sadly, the highlight for me was seeing the GM Parade of Progress bus, both sitting and driving. As far as my favorite marquee, I saw a couple '54 Hudsons here and there, and the yellow '38 convertible in the sale tent, but that was it.

I guess I wasn't really surprised by my experience. It's kind of like trying to take in the Smithsonian in a couple hours. I guess the bottom line for me is I won't even bother going unless I have at least two full days, and to make sure neither of them are Saturday! Oh....and bring buckets of money, cause everything that I saw for sale had two prices on it.
