Somewhere I read a 6 cylinder AMC fuel pump will fit a 308, is this true? If so from which model or what part# is it? I know the motor mounts work as I have a set in mine.

Thanks,

  • Yes, the pumps from the 232 or 258 6 cyl engines bolt right up. Use the original spacer tho. Might have tyo tweak the lines to get them to line up.

    Saloon,

    Got mine from Auto-Zone #193144-6737

Fits AMC 232-258 6 CYL ENGINES. Be sure to use the Hudson Gasket stack-pack or the arm will bottom out. (i do not know the thickness of the pack)

Works good on my 308 engine.

  • Same on my old 262 Wasp. My pump was off a mid-'70s 258. Bought it at O'Reilly's, but I do not remember the part number.

A 1978 Pinto pump will work also - I had one one my 262 and 308. I got it at checkers Auto Supply

Does the Pinto pump require a lot of tube bending as the AMC does?
  • The pinto pump has an extra line to figure out what to do with.

With the AMC pump, it is real basic, inlet and outlet. The bend is a hard one from the outlet, but your option is to have a flex line made by someone who does hydraulic hoses, that's what I did, and it is terrific, cost me a little over $20

So what is the story on this gasket pack? I don't think any parts stores are going to know what a Hudson gasket pack is. Do you have to do the same with the Pinto pump? Which one do you get, I belive there were a couple of different engines for the Pinto. Started with the pushrod 1.6 and at the end they 2.3 OHC's. I believe there was a 2.0 OHC too.

    Thanks
  • use the existing gasket stack from your hudson pump. they have a stack of gaskets where the pump mounts, that's about 3/8" to 1/2 inch thick. they seem pretty reuseable, and never seem to get ruined.

I've seen these made from metal once or twice as well, pretty wierd...

I have an AMC pump on my coupe and my Father has a pinto pump on his. I bent the fuel line for both cars. In my opinion, the line for the AMC pump is a little easier to bend than the pinto pump. I also think that the AMC pump is a little cheaper and the availability is greater as well. Some parts houses don't even carry pinto pumps. I haven't seen a parts store that doesn't carry an AMC 232/258 fuel pump.
  • Used the AMC Concord pump in August while travelling from Salt Lake to Reno for Hot August Nights. Luckily the original pump gave out only 10 miles from Elko and I got the pump from CarQuest. The gasket stack from the Hudson pump was 5/8" thick but worked like a champ. Unfortunately I had to cut and bend the stock fuel line to the carbs to work but it safely travelled another 1000 miles before I sold the car back to it's original owner.

Sounds good thanks for all the responses. Mine is starting to seep around the diaphram and it vapor locks in traffic. I don't know if a fresh pump will help that but it can't hurt. I am building a Twin H for it and blocking the heat risers and will be converting to electric wipers so I won't need the dual action.
