Enough Insurance ?

After being involved in a car accident this last summer with our 2003 Ford Explorer we had the mistake of having only $1,000 Med- Pay. The other person who went through a red light and hit us was at falt and was cited, but his insurance company refused to pay anything. Believe me $1,000 will not fix a hang- nail! We quickly increased our med-pay on our policy to $25,000 each. I checked our insurance on our Hudsons, (We have been insured by J.C. Taylor for many years) and our med- pay is only $1,000 ! I called J.C. Taylor, and they will not offer a dime more than $1,000. That hasen't changed in 30 years ! Unacceptable !!! We are considering changing our collector car insurance to a company that offers med- pay that is realistic !

Hows your insurance ?

  • Purchase an umbrella policy from your regular insurer and get a good lawyer. Maybe a call to your state office which regulates insurance companies is in order.
  • Every state had a Department of Insurance. IF the other driver had liability insurance your bills should be covered up to the policy limits. Nevada's limits are pretty low if I remember right though. Some of the non-mainline insurance companies will stall you out and a complaint to the DOI is in order. Good luck!

Dept of insurance will not get involved. Other company is State Farm. My Company is Allstate. My Body shop and insurance company told me that State Farm is doing this a lot the last year. I have a good Lawyer ! He told me it will take over a year to get my money back, as State Farm will drag this out.

Sorry to hear that. Your lawyer is right. The insurance companies are quick to take your money but hardly ever want to give any back. Years ago, I was leaving for an appointment on a cold winter day. As I approached a nearby intersection, a big rusting hulk of an SUV was attempting to turn onto the street I was leaving. The driver turned his wheel, hit the brakes and slid on ice. Needless to say, the vehicle didn't follow through on the turn and was heading for my door. In order to get out of harms way, I ditched my car and struck a tree. The reason why I'm telling you this is because of what happened after my car was repaired. I got a call from the body shop manager who said the car was ready, but that I would not like a certain piece the insurance company (State Fart) forced them to use. They were right, the piece in question was made in Taiwan and looked it. I didn't approved the repair and the insurance company not only had to pay to rerepair the car, they had to pay for another month to keep me in a rental car. In the end, they paid out well over $800.00 in an attempt to save themselves $50.00. The driver of the other vehicle was arrested for driving (his employer's SUV) without a license, wreckless drivnig and causing an accident. Although I did eventually get compensation from the vehicle owners insurance company, they fought me every step of the way. If you're right and can prove it, stand up and fight We not only need to be compensated for our losses, we must send a message to wreckless drivers.
  • State farm has not just been doing for the last year... They are known for it. I work in a body shop and they are the worst ( behind progressive) for not wanting to pay. my friend jerry down here was hit in his 55 chev (totally restored) and they offered him 2500 dollars as a total. that was 4 years ago. they still havent paid to fix his car. He is just recently getting work done and billing statefarm. Statefarm was also sued not to long ago in a class action suit by a bunch of body shops for non payment, dragging there feet to finalize suppliments and estiment (wich creates more storage fees) and un-ethical requests for repair.. Meaning that they would have body shops put a bandaid on a open heart surgery wound. i feel for you... Im haveing to deal with Allstate right now and they dont seem much better.

My body shop says State Farm is the worst also ! Well, we'll sue sue!!
  • Ooooooh, insurance companies, MY favorite topic. My first sentence about insurance companies usually starts with the words "crooked, rotten, backstabbing bastards"...and that's stating their GOOD points!

USAA, Allstate, State Farm, they're all bastards.

And getting your health insurance (from work) to pay, that's a whole different matter!

Around here I've heard its good to have State Farm unless you're trying to collect from them!
