1929 Essex oil pump needed

Jon, why can't the existing pump be repaired? Get him to send it to me and I'll fix it for him.

Because, Geoff, it turns out he has a 1928 pump! (Thanks for giving me the identifying 'cues'!)0
-
Well, why doesn't he just use that, it works exactly the same?????

But...but...I thought you told me that the pumps improved with each new version??? (Geoff, we've got to stop meeting this way! LOL!)0

Providing the four balls are inserted correctly, (two in the top and two in the bottom) the '28 pump is perfectly adequate for the job.

Assuming he has the '28 pump, Geoff (hexagonal top, square bottom...right?) and he's missing any or all of the ball check valves, can he simply substitute any old steel ball bearing of the right size? Or is this super-critical?0

According to the parts catalog, Part number GY101, steel ball, 3/8 4 of, cost, 03c each!0
