Wiring up the Wasp
I spent a couple of evenings last week getting my old wiring harness unwrapped and ready to replace. It was a miracle that the car didn't burn to the ground, even what little I have driven it. It is terrifying looking at some of the wiring that had been cobbled together over the years. There were sections that had no insulation at all for several inches. Another miracle is that everything worked except for the radio. Spent most of today building the new harness. About 1/3rd of the way complete. Everything will be new with soldered terminals. So far have had no problems, but not looking forward to getting under the car and doing the overdrive wiring and pulling the tank for the sending unit wire. Might as well do it and get it over with. Note to new owners, NEVER drive your car until the wiring is right. I was lucky, you may not be.

Good suggestion. Everyone should keep a fire extinguisher in their car as well as a wrench to disconnect the battery cables.0

We are currently re-wiring my '50 Commodore 6. We bought all the correct color and gague from Napa, with new connectors. About $200. Doesn't look like the original cloth, but will tape and wrap to hide most of it. The price of copper has skyrocketed the last 6 months, the price of new wire has tripled ! Priced original type wiring at XYZ, and Rhode Island wiring-- $1,200 for complete car ! Swasp, when your wiring job is done you will notice much brighter headlights and gauges and the car will start much better.Make sure you have a good ground for the sending unit- read the post on the forums.0
