Aftermarket Harmonic Dampners

Had a discussion today with the new owner of the former Fischer Dampners. He is a former employee who has bought the business now under a new name. He has all the drawings and actually has several of the center crank hubs in stock. We talked about making 6 at a time to keep the cost down and actually making one for street motors and one for racing applications. I would be willing to fund six of each if there is interest. The street will have a pulley intergrated and the racing will adapt a bolt-on pulley. I'm not sure of the price yet. Is there interest out their.

  • Count me in depending on price I would need 3. Keep us posted. Nice addition to the stuff you already offer.
  • Randy,

I'm interested, but I would also like to know the price. The last Clifford catalog I had, they were $600.00. Which is the reason I don't have one.

One more question. Is their construction such that a timing mark on it would remain accurate? I don't know how a Fischer was built. If its outer shell is held by an elastomer, its not suitable for a timing mark.

Just a thought: you might want to take your time on this, and post a notice in the "parts for sale" or "repro parts" section of the WTN, announcing this. (After you get a rough price and delivery date from the manufacturer, of course). There are many more readers of the WTN than there are viewers of the Hudson Forum, and you might find you'll have a great deal more interest than you thought -- which in turn could allow you to make more dampeners, and thus bring the cost down even more.
  • how about 2 groove dampners?

for those that want power steering or AC?

That was my first thought when I saw the post- just make them all double pulleys, at least the street models- that's what everyone seems to want.
  • Talked To The Owner Of The Damper Co. Today. The Double Pulley Will Work- Wide Groove Pulley For Our Wide Belt And An Outside Narrow Pulley For Our Bolt On A.c. Etc. Will Have Timing Marks On The Front. The Damper Is A Multipiece, Modular Design That Operates Like A Radial Shock Absorber To Cushion Crankshaft Vibration. No Elastomer Ring Or Hydraulic Oil. It Will Have Mechanical Friction Elements Under Tension To Permit Fine Tuning Over A Wider Rpm Range. Cost To Be $365.00 Randy Still Interest?
  • Yup, sounds good to me....
  • At $365 I'm in. Especially if its timing stable- so I can quit breaking my neck trying to read those flywheel marks.

Not sure if you want to look into Randy but the Chicago-Milwaukee Chapter has some money set aside for a possible reproduction project provided it will assist the greatest number of members. If it'll fit any step-down engine than I think it would help a lot of folks. It's not a whole lot but they might be willing to provide some seed money, and probably more likely if you already have some orders. You might want to talk to the President Mark Gerard and or tresurer.
  • Aaron,--Thanks for the offer, it is a sizeable investment for a small return. As a chapter project, I would like to see the plastic gear selectors for the automatic including the borg-warner remade. Full Line used to have them and were always out when I checked. I believe a few hundred could be sold with a better profit margin and a smaller initial investment.
