From the last photo it appears they do know what to do with a Hudson once they get to it, so hopefully they'll get to that Italia soon. Somebody keeps track of all the Italias by serial number- Does he have that one on his list?
  • I wonder is this is one of the missing or known Italias?

Anybody check this with the issue of the WTN that had the listing?

Since posting this I rec'd more info from Italia owner Ed Souers. This is the "known" Italia in Sweden...it is owned by Club Member Roland Peterson. When I posted this link I didn't see the photos below from the '70's. The guy in the grey coat and glasses in the barn looking at the Italia is Ed Souers when he visited in 1977. The more recent snow-bound photos makes you wonder if this car is the prized possession one might think it would be...
  • here.... beat me to it.....

That wouldn't matter much to me - I want one someday because...
    • most everyone else thinks they're ugly
    • rare model vintage automobile - good investment
    • Its as near to a "factory prototype" that was put into limited production as one could get unless you own a "Tucker"
Has an Italia crossed an auction block anytime in recent years? I wonder what one might bring at BJ's these days?

I believe that Mark Hyman just bought one of the known examples. Not sure which one. He's a big time dealer/collector who has been trying to buy one for a long time. I know one owner who has been approached several times by a well known collector (not Mark) on a "price is no object" basis. With the recent Pebble Beach recognition, I wouldn't be surprised if a nice example went for high 6 or even 7 figures.
  • Man I wish someone would make fiberglass copies of the body for the guys that will never be able to buy an orginal. I don't think anybody could get rich from making them but there would be quite a few people to step up in my opinion.

I can see myself squeezing my lard a$$ into one of those doors, firing up a stroked Hornet six and hear the sound made by the vacuum of six side draft Webers and the sweet lope from a Isky .446 camshaft exiting out a custom split header into dual dynomax mufflers. I can almost fee the big six pulling thru the gears of a Tremac 5 speed on to a 3.73 rear into a set of 335/35/18 tires. Can you feel the rush of taking a corner at three times the posted limit, gliding thru the appex and rolling into the throttle gobbeling up the road in antacipation of the next corner...

We have to have a dream!

That wasn't Ed Souers- It was Elvis! Seriously though, I heard that the Pierce family have sold Russ's Italia to a collector.

They do come up for sale now and again - Hazel Robinson just sold her brother Ray's Italia down in CT. Article on that Italia will be in the New England Chapter newsletter coming out in the next day or two.

Well, I might as well jump in. I had an opportunity to go Sweden in 1977. I looked up the Italia at that point in time. That is in fact me in a couple of the picturres removing the snow and opening the door. I have met up with the owner every year since in Hershey to share stories, and any parts that I had made that he needed. I had a fiberglass copy of my front bumper made before I had it plated and sent it to him for his car. Its a very respectable car. I know he takes care of it, so the car in the snow was not its normal treatement.

The Italia has long been pegged as overstyled by the "experts". It was great to see Fred Roth place at Pebble Beach with his, overcoming that common thought. I have had mine to 50 shows in the last 3 years trying to change tha perspective, and I think I have made progress.

The value is not so much that it is a Hudson, but that all of the mid 50's sports cars (and I use that term very carefully), the Italia had the least number of copies made.

None has been sold at auction, they have all been private sales. The offers I have had are pretty unbelievable for a Hudson. But then, it never was about the money now was it. Ed

Paul, If you like, let Bill know I have a grill for the car if he wants to put an original one in it.
