Why wouldn't you keep it with the straght 8 ????

According to the badge and trim work it was a commodore 6 not an 8. Since they put a V8 in it though they should get a eight badge for it. lol Suicide doors were factory.

Harry, We've had enough of the "rod vs. restore" wrangles on here, that I think everyone has pretty much just "agreed to disagree". That's probably best, IMHO, to save hurt feelings and upset stomachs. I think Alex is on the right track- another one saved.

  • It could have had a cracked block or maybe a thrown rod. That explains the engine. As far as the 8 3/4 MoPaR rear axle, that's just common sense with a hi po small block. I've been accused of being a "purist" but I think this one is OK, and it sure beats sending it to the crusher.

    Have a good day

  • Looks to me like he did a nice job. Saved a car and if you bought it you would have an option of throwing a six back in.

Right on, Alex. A lot of the 4 door cars ended up being junked. It looks like he did a nice job as well. Another Hudson on the road!

This happens because the guy who done it doesn't appreciate Hudson engines. The junk yards and many of our sheds are full of 212s amd 254s that just need to be cleaned inside and out, so there's no excuse for not finding one.
  • i can understand the reasons behind the swap in my pacemaker, i bet parts for hudson 232's didnt exist back in the 80's here in oz so why not just drop in whatevers going. ie a ford 6 cylinder. dont worry there is a 308u going in across our summer

I guess I need to take a step back. Alot of good points have been brought up. I agree , it's better than the crusher. I also agree that during the 80's and 90's it was alot tougher to find a hudson engine than it is now. In todays world with the internet , eveything is just a click away.
  • It is a rolling Hudson - can't ask for more than that.

Mine is not rolling at the moment....pondering.
  • ya, keep as many as possible out there. :)

Well, auction ended. Reserve Not Met at $5305.00 For all the money and time he put into this car, he got a car worth as much as a high four.

Come on now...I don't know this car, never looked at it, but just because a car doesn't sell on ebay doesn't mean its not worth what the seller is asking for it.

Ebay is not the "holy grail" of determing interest/popularity/pricing for any car (or any other item for that matter)

Would you say Barret Jacksons is a good barometer for the pricing of cars?

It's really only worth what someone will pay for it and there is a buyer for every car...sometimes it just takes longer...

Well, pricing cars is not a exact science. I agree that "It's really only worth what someone will pay for it". Barret Jacksons is a good barometer for the pricing of the type of cars that appear in their auctions. The people that go to Barret Jacksons expect perfection and rarity and are willing and able to pay for it. If you have car that qualifies for Barret Jacksons, you would be a fool not to sent it there because that is where the money is.

We do not know that is seller asking for it. But if I had to guess he wants something north of $20,000 and he will not get it anytime soon. Why, well, he had 15 bidders and they want to pay about $6,000.
  • That should have brought more money/bids... kind of surprised...

I thought so too hudsonkid. A couple things come to mind when I was looking at this car. First (don't take this wrong anyone), but the front ends/grilles on these are not very attractive to rodders, I think its difficult to get any kind of smooth flow out of those grilles out thru the rest of the car. And though 4 door sedans are rodded, I don't think as many as Coupes or 2-door Sedans.

I think its a nice well done rod, but I just personally don't like the looks of the 40's Huds, though the late 40's Pickups look okay, similar to the 40 Ford trucks in lines except the grille(did I save myself enough here Rick? lol).

    Just a couple thoughts.

I think the '46/47 is a nice looking car - till I look at it head on. That grille kills the looks- at least for me. The cave located in the middle should have never existed from and asthetic point of view. I understand why its needed given the radiator location and position, but its still a serious detraction from the rest of the vehicle. If that car had more of a '48/49ish looking grille - it would be truly gorgeous.

Rodders or Rod buyers are not going to pay for a 4 door what they will for a coupe. No matter the maker, era, or build specifics.

I don't like to see Hudson's powered by anything but Hudson engines. Nor do I like to see Ford Duece coupes powered by anything that isn't Ford in heritage. I'm strange, I start with an engine and then look for a car. That's backwards from the normal Rodding mentality.

I've been told numerous times that I'm not normal, I've accepted it and moved on.

    Your in luck ! Hudson made that car. It's a 1942 !

My favorite part of the 46 / 47 Hudsons was always the grill. I guess because it is different. I never have and still don't like the early 40's Hudsons.

I aways thought that a 308 Twin H powered 46 commodore would be sweet.
