It's the Carb (got to be)
I was tinkering again this morning and noticed something I did not notice before......(follow on to the Vacuum Pump Thread)
When a little too much starting ether is sprayed in the carb, it leaks at the side where the linkage goes through. Leaks on both sides.
So it has to be rebuilt to fix this problem. That will then make sure everything else is clean, inspected, repaired/replaced and in working order.
Thanks for all the help.
Job/task order will be rearranged to account for lack of running engine for a while. Next up is brake lights and trun signals, then window weather stripping on door as new glass is now cut, then clean, sand, clean, seal and paint trunk. All the while the generator and starter will be cleaned and serviced.
That will keep my busy for at least a few weeks. Man I need a job....

Sounds like your carb needs some new bushings. What's this about needing a job?0

Is it a WA-1 carb? Every one I've ever owned did that. It's more an annoyance than anything. I'm sure they didn't do it when new but like I said, all of mine have done it. For some reason the WGD carbs seem not to do that so much.0

The Army just moved my wife this summer. I was working as an Army contractor at the last base we lived and spent one year in New Orleans after Katrina as contractor to FEMA (workign for the same company).
They do not have an office here.
I meant I needed a job instead of working on the car, grocery shopping every day (fresh meals), getting the kids from school, etc, etc, etc....0 -

It is a WA-1 749S. But still not getting anything out of the jet when the pump is activated. So a rebuild is in order unless someone can provide some other tips and directions (with 8x10 photo glossies).0 -
Pace,
Would you be talking about where the throttle valve shaft goes through the carb body? That is more than an annoyance-- it is a vacuum leak. Take the carb body and throttle shaft to a reputable engine shop that does cylinder heads and have them install bronze valve guide liners in it. I'd tear it down and do that and put a kit in it. Sounds like something in the pump circuit is amiss, either the pump jet clogged or the pump check ball stuck, and make sure the needle valve is flowing because if there's no gas in the bowl, the pump obviously can't do anything. Also the leather seal on the pump shaft could be rotten or at least shrunk.0 -

Sounds like you already have quite a big job to do at home. Maybe one outside of the home would be less work. Best of luck.0 -

That would be the correct name. The repair is beyond my abilities and understanding of carburators. It comes off next week (after Turkey Day) and will be shipped out to a reputable Hudson rebuilder.0
