Small block engine mounts

Other than a flywheel with a few teeth missing, the Hudson is running great. However, I'm still not able to stop the oil leak in the Kaiser. I'm thinking about installng a 283 Chevy engine that's in my parent's backyard (just rotting away). What kind of motor mounts would you guys that have converted to a V8 recommend? JC Whitney advertises an interesting universal motor mount that caught my eye. Anyone familiar with what I'm referring to?

  • Mine came from Fatman's for use with their stub frame. Not sure if they will work for your set-up, you could call them and ask. But I've seen universal SBC ones in Jegs. I'll bet a little google search would get you a number of places to look. We made our own when I had my '42 Ford PU and my '38 Dodge 5W Coupe out of steel scraps and tubing back in the late 70's and early 80's. They held up just fine.

You don't have to use a standard side mount style motor mount.

Wes Kitchens did his small block by making a front motor mount plate, and he added a rear bracket at the trans mount for additonal support - check this thread out...

I'm putting a 454 in my Hudson and re-used the original front Hudson motor mounts (frame side) by moving them back and making the engine mounts (actually made these from the original Hudson front plate)
