neon dealer sign
Last week I took my five foot wide original neon dealer sign over to the sign shop to have the neon tubes replaced. Since they were broken when I got the sign, I never did see it lit up, so assumed the triangle in the center glowed red, and the hudson letters white.
However, the sign shop says they've never seen that paticular type of tube glow white, and it looked to them that the Hudson lettering may have been more to the blue end of the spectrum. Also they are wondering if the triangle was really bright red, or sort of faded red or pinkish in colour.
Has anyone seen one of these signs lit up with the original tubes ? And if so, what were the colours ? Does anyone have a picture of one of these signs lit up ?
Can anyone enlighten me as to what is correct here ?
Thanks,
silverone

If you're referring to the sign outside your garage Dave, over the cars in the first picture --- yes, that is the exact sign I have too.
However, I can't tell what the colour of the neon should be from the picture.
The sign shop tells me the colour of the tube does not show what colour it is when lit up, because different gases in the tubes glow with different colours.
What colours does your sign show when powered up ? Is the neon original, or has it been restored with new components somewhere down the line ?

The triangle is a pinkish hue when lit the Hudson letters are a blueish white when lit. See if this pic shows you. These colors are consistent through the different models of Hudson neon sign.0

Thanks Dave, I thought the same thing. I've seen reproduction decals but just wanted to get the correct one.

It would be cool if somone made a small - affordable - recreation neon sign like this for resale... maybe 2-3ft high...0 -
Thanks Sean, It looks like pinkish and blueish are the colours I'll be going with.
