My trunk lock broke on my 51 Hornet and now I can't open it. I guess the only way in is thru the back seat? Niels

  • Niels, Thats the easiest way. Unbolt the two bolts holding down the latch plate that attaches to the floor pan assembly in the trunk and WaLa it's open.
  • Mine broke several months ago. I unscrewed the set screw holding the cylinder in place, and simply turned the whole unit to open the trunk. Worked like a charm. I've since pulled all of the tumblers, so any key will turn the lock. The car is never unattended for long, and who knows (except everyone who reads this forum) how easy it is to get into.
  • I had looked at what I thought was a set screw but it looks more like a retaining pin with no head for a screwdriver or phillips. I think I'll just crawl thru... Thx!
  • The body manual details how to gain access to a locked trunk. If you're crawling in to the trunk, better take a phone with you in case you get stuck...LOL
