And? is there more to it?0

You can print out a copy of the WA-1 Carter Carb manual at this web site. Unfortunately, the Index callout only gives you half the manual. You have to search the Thumbnails for the other half.

Thank you. That site was not in the Google top 20 when I searched.0 -

After my near fire and a lot of raw fuel pouring out, it was suggested I take the top off the carb and check some things. I need a better understanding of what I am looking at.
I need to figure out how the float valve and its related end peice is to to properly installed. The float itself is fine and I see how that is attaached. It i just the sixe-side float valve that I need to check. It dropped out as I lifted the unit out of the carb.
I also now know (from the raw fuel leaks) that all my carb gaskets are cracked (now on order).
I am going to give it try myself and see if I can learn more about the carb and save $225 minimum in rebuilding costs.
Thanks for asking.0 -
Although you can get a good rebuild for less than $225.00, the point shouldn't be money. What price do you put on your life, that of your family and the safety of the Hudson? If you want to take chances, and possibly goof up, stick to fixing something that, if it fails, wonm't cause fire or injury. Although I rebuilt carbs when I was younger, I don't do it for a living and prefer to defer that wok to those who do.0

I rebuilt my WA-1's for my twin H on my 50. I used hudsondad's assembly manual, and honestly, was pretty easy. (don't tell him, I still got it, and unfortunatley, i got carb cleaner a little on a few of the pages...)
What I don't understand, is the 50 shop manual goes into specific detail on how to rebuld the WA-1 749's
I thought pacemaker500 had the shop manual, since he said in the fuel line thread, that it didn't show the fuel line?

As far as carbs are concened, I don't have the knowledge or experience to make sure nothing is warped nor do I have equipment to set bushings or access to every little part that may be needed. So, I shipped my carbs to Ohio a while back and for about $250.00 total, they came back looking and working like new, complete with a warranty on parts and labor.0

Here's a few hints if you have never rebuilt a carb before. Take it off the car and put in on a flat bench make sure you drain any gas out of it. Take a good long look at how it is put together and how the linkages look. Have a suitable flat container to remove parts and lay them in. Be sure to keep all of the little ball bearing check valves.
Follow the Carter manual it is very good, lay out your parts like they show and follow the steps. Never force anything in a carb the jets and their threads are tight tolerance and be careful of gaskets and the small washers that are on some jets.
Take your time and you should be ok....and above all have fun and be safe out there. Get that fire extinquisher before you try starting again. Have you wife crank the car while you look for leaks....0 -

Thank you. I am building the work bench this afternoon. And I have already purchased a tray that has many little compartments for parts as they come out. I have also calculated a camera stand to hold the video camera and the digital still camera. One shot per part with a few minutes of video.
And the fire extinguisher is mounted between the doors, another by the enttry to the house and portable on the stand next to the car.0 -

I was wondering where my carb manual got to. I blamed "Hudsonmom" for putting it away.0 -

I get the impression that Hudsonkid is way bigger than anything the averaged sized person could put over their knee. So, you'll have to settle for yelling and wagging your finger at him...then run like hell.0
