Rat Rod 53 Jet on ebay

This kind of has potential but I think since he chopped the top he needs to section the body as it looks out of proportion now. Body needs to be lowered and sectioned to make the lower top look more fluid with the body line. Anyway interesting topic of discussion....

  • What? You don't like the Nova C pillars?

You would have to be Danny DeVito to be able to drive that mess.

  • Take a look at the steering wheel it looks like it touches the roof. You have to drive looking through the wheel....
  • "Lookie at all this work I did on this car! I can't afford to get glass made for it, and I really jacked up an otherwise, well, a Jet, so here it is for you to rescue! I can't give the thing away, but someone on ebay will see the potential, right"

  • The sad thing is that they screwed up a 1953 2 door - They're about as rare as hen's teeth. Most 53's were sedans.
  • Very interesting. I think the chop job and such is hack job, but its something to think about. The headlight French is terrible too. I agree this one would need to be sectioned, 'cause it looks WAYYYYYY out of proportion! I think this chop is too low. But I see it mentioned much on this noard what it would look like to chop a Jet, you can a screwed up one here.

Patrick's statement is so apripo here! (sp?)

I think the biggest problem with the Jet is its so stubby looking. What's the WB on these things? Maybe less chop, like 3" or so (wish I had Photoshop) would look alright. And maybe on a 4 door (w/ suicided shaved doors). And maybe a section job is a must on these.

Jets, it seems, are stuck between a full size and a Nash Metro. The stepdowns look cool chopped (or not) and almost any mod looks good on them, the Metro looks cool w/ enormous engines in them, but the poor Jet, I'm afraid, may be one car that just has to remain as it is, love it or not.

Hey, somebody tip off the guy who bought the Jet convertible. He needs a 2 door donor car, and this just may be it! No reserve, and it'll go for a song.
  • That would be a good use for this car as its screwed as is.

This example really shows you how unforgiving the Jet design is. Poor Frank Spring the Jet got designed by a smart ass Hudson dealer and the engineers at Hudson. Designers were absent the day Barit asked for this one. But at least you can wear a hat while driving one.......

    One word description - Grrooooaaaarggghhh!
  • I have to say I like the stock Hudson Jet as is. Nice small car that handles and drives well. When you have one with Twin H you have a pocket rocket. Had a passenger ride in one with Twin H and the guy was lead footing it I got out of the car quite pale.....nice for what it is no more, no less...its a Hudson so I love it......say it proud, say it loud....
  • in my opinion jets would look better pillarless, maybe not even chop it, id concentrate on getting the thing low before i thought about a chop. this guy has obviously never heard of the old trick of cutting a photo into sections to find the right proportions- photoshop for the old days. that back window is an abortion! maybe you could save it by finding a car with really trashed floor and sill/monobilt rails to use for a roof donor. or maybe not even run a hudson roof. i wonder how a falcon coupe lid would look on there..... they obviously did the lights for the sake of doing the lights, frenching them would of done fine without the tunnel job. the light/grill setup make it look like an angry car. i guess id be pissed off too if my roof had **** targa roof wannabe sections! the line of the chop is almost decent but it needs a few inches in the A pillars to be useful
  • The chop job doesn't actually look that bad, and I do like the hollywood treatment.

I do have one comment on the car that is the killer for anybody knowing Hudson.

RUST!!! Its got plenty and will keep my from having any interest in it whatsoever.

    I like Jets.

  • Every manufacturer made a car that is so easy to make fun of. GM had the Corvair, Ford had the Edsel, Mopar had the '61 and '62 Dart, and Hudson had the Jet.

    Phew!

Rear Split Sextagonal Windows and a Pimp-mobile sunroof - why didn't think of that?

This is a throwaway car guys

With the rust showing in the pictures we all know what the underneath and structure is like and with these "wild mods" and probably done without the needed additional structural support...well...I wouldn't drive it, ride in it - or follow too closely behind as I bet it wouldn't be a pretty sight seeing that fishtale down the road like a wet noodle and then break in half!

I don't think the seller did this - I bet someone gave it to him, or he got it dirt cheap...sad thing is...this car already has 2 threads going on the forum! Doh@!
  • Some say Jet's may drive nice and be fairly quick, but if a car is just plain bland, ugly, and doesn't turn someone's head then what's the point. Look at the photo on the back of the latest WTN. Ugly ducking fits a Jet to a T. Jets and especially Hashes- yuck.

Somehow I don't think this is quite what Frank Spring had in mind when he proposed a "lower roof line" for the Jet.
