51 Hudson Commodore

That rust in the frame would need a good going over. Would not buy this car without inspecting it first.0
-
My feelings too. Looks like a nice car though.0

I think the seller has been straight up front about the issues of the car. I bet you find that the fram rust is about what is stated. Obviously, the owner knows that frame rust must be an issue on these cars.
What scares me? New York State.... (=rust)
Probably would have been better to start it out at 3500 and put a reasonable reserve on it. The price is fair, but when people smell bargain, the bids start to roll in...0 -
Hudsonkid,
The fact that the car is in New York doesn't scare me. For all we know, the car may have originally been from Arizona. Are you bidding on this one or do you think that Hudsondad is going to surprise you with it on Christmas?0 -
The first link is to a thread about another 51 a 2 door cpe (it eventually didn't sell @14k w/BIN 26k)
Looking at both ebay listings these 2 cars are very similar in condition but not in the ATTENTION to detail!
Just look at the difference between the 2dr jamb area and the same area on the 4dr.
NO comparision really - and this picture of the 4 door tells me someone has done a nice job keeping this car up and clean when paint work was done...unlike the 2dr example.
Seems like the seller has been mostly forthright and the did post pictures of the rusted areas called out and on a lift without anyone even having to ask!

no more for me for a bit...
unless hudsondad gets me that coupe I always wanted, I'll have to wait for another hudson.
Maybe the next thing I get might be really off the wall, perhaps a model A 5 window... :cool:0 -
This car seems familiar to me, but I can't say for sure that I've seen it. It is from my neck of the woods...
I definately wouldn't assume that NY = rust. My experience with the HET cars in NY has been good. The bad ones are usually pretty obvious rustbuckets, not too much in between.

If I am correct this car once belonged to Floyd Newlands, long time Hudson member. As I remember the car originated in California. I don't recall who bought it as I haven't seen the car around in about 10 years.
Back then it was in excellant condition.
Matt, that may be why it looks familar. You may have seen it at one of the WNY/Ontario club meets 'moons' ago.
If it is the correct car, then the owner bought a intake/exhaust manifold from
me because his leaked or was cracked.

That would make sense. I was at Floyds house quite a few times as a kid. I used to drool over the cars he had (or at least next to them):). Any idea what happened to the dark blue 54 sedan he had?

I have no idea where that car went, I do remember him working on it at his garage. It was in paint, but not finished yet.
Of course it seems like many of the cars in this area came through him years back. He still has his 50? Pacemaker convertable (Hornet powered) and a bunch of parts laying around.
The last few years he got interested in MOPARS from the 60's & 70's -- his son likes them. Unfortunately Floyd can not do much on the cars due to health reason. Artheritis , shoulder surgeries etc etc.
It is very difficult for him to drive the Hudsons because he can't steer them.
