Hudson Clutch Oil ?
Is there anyone or place that sells clutch oil on the internet that takes payment on the internet (Credit Card, PayPal) and ships ? At this time I am using ATF and at times the clutch will not release unless I start it in gear or rev the engine while I hold the pedal down. I also have some trouble shifting and thinking the clutch is not disingaging all the time. So, I am going to flush and put in the original clutch mix in and see if it helps. Thanks, Ron

Ron, it sounds like your clutch needs flushing badly. My clutch was doing the saem - I could not egage low gear after first starting, as the clutch was sticking to the flywheel. It could be that the corks are glazed up and have burnt facings. You need to flush it out with a mix of aof paint thinners and acetone or such like - something that will dissolve the gunk off the faces of the corks, then fluch out again with kerosene, and re-fill with Hudsonite or A.T.F. The latter will not harm your clutch, but neither will work in a glazed-up clutch. In my case I dismantled the whole clutch, as it was shuddering as well, and the corks had a black coating on them, probably from being let run dry. I sanded this off, soaked the plate in A.T.F. before re-assembling, adjusted the finger height, and it now works fine, with no sticking or grabbing.

Hello Ron and all fellow HET members. I have a 37 Terra and have had and still have a few problems. The clutch isnt as smooth as everyone says they should be.
People talk about using the correct gasket thickness, cork to cork thicknes of the clutch plate, correct oil, depth down to the 3 fingers thru the hole, and shimming the pressure plate so that the 3 fingers all contact at the same time. One of my current problems is a lot of wear in the side of the bellhousing, on the clutch linkage side, where the large cross shaft goes thru. Im thinking that this is why I dont have a smooth clutch. Curious what others have done. Regards, Barry0 -

I am flushing my clutch and will be installing the Hudson Clutch fluid tomorrow. I know this has been brought up 3,000,000,000,000 times but how much clutch fluid should I put in ? The last time I put in 6 ounces of ATF and was wondering if I put to much in then it will act like a tourque converter and not always release all the way ? So is 6 ounces OK or to much or to little ? (1929 Hudson) Thanks, Ron
Flushing a clutch...I have tied the clutch pedal down and put about 6 ounces of a cleaner we use at work to clean high voltage cable that works great on removing grease and oils. I turn the engine over a 1/4 turn so often to soak and clean the corks. Would it be ok to start the car and run the clutch in and out to help clean the corks or would that hurt with just the cleaner ?0 -
Ron, half a pint works fine in the '29 clutch. Luckily in this versiion of the clutch the drain plug is at the bottom - previous models you had to have a suction gun to get the old fluid out. As a guide, put half a pint in, and if the clutch works smoothly you should be okay. However, if it is rough and catchy, you may r have to put a bit more in. If this doesn;t work then you will have to delve deeper, and check the cork thickness, finger adjustment, plate trueness etc.
