'52 Wasp 262 / 308 swap question
Hello all,
I was wondering if swapping up to a 308 would be a simple bolt-in operation to replace my smaller 262. I would like to keep everything Hudson as possible but would like some more horses! I have a 1952 Wasp 2 door brougham with automatic tranny.
Any and all comments and suggestions would be great.
Thanks guys,
Adam

Should be a bolt in. Don't remember if the pilot bearing on the crankshaft is the same for Hydramatic and standard trans, and 56 I think requires a spacer(?)0

Thanks for the replies fellas! I understand that the tranny must come out with the engine due to the 24 or bolts involved...is that correct?
What other tricks would there be to getting more HP out of a 308?
Thanks again!

to pull the engine/transmission as a unit, you will need to remove the grille and have additional height to make the swing plus you are dealing with balancing the extra weight and length. just besure you have enough room to handle the job. if you want to detail the everything as part of the project, it will help to have it all out.
separrating the hydramatic is not a problem and either way all the bolts have to come out. put the car on jackstands at a comfortable height to work on your back and support the engine and transmission. separrate the torque converter and pull the housing bolts (there are access holes in the floor board for the upper which may still be tarred in.
regardless which route you choose replace the front hydramatic seal.0 -
There is a 1952 Motor Trend road test of the Hornet against the Wasp. Also this is reprinted in Brooklands book, "Hudson 1946-1957" 'Road Test'. I bought this book at the National Automotive Museum in Reno. The results of these head- on tests will surprise you!0
