Weird plate under lower a-frame bolt
I was fooling around under my new '53 Hornet and I noticed there was a big gap between the bracket that bolts the lower a-frame pivot to the cross-member and the cross-member. The bolt proved to be stripped. However, the bracket on the other side had a metal plate about 1/16" between the bracket and the cross-member. The place where the bolt was stripped didn't have one. I replaced the bolt and pulled it up tight but I don't know what that plate is. My '54 Wasp doesn't have any. Anybody know?

Hi out there in Hudson land. Does anyone know for sure if I have to remove the heater in order to remove the cowl air intake unit to replace the vent gasket on a 54 Hornet? Thanks. Hudsonly,---Cliff Minard0

I assume you want to replace the gasket under the scoop.
Nope, don't remove the heater.
Remove the screen held on with 1 screw in the center and slide it out of the channels holding it on the sides.
You will then see the 2 screws holding the scoop on, and the clip on the end of the opening/closing rod.0
