edited November -1 in HUDSON
I know we have been down this road before, but I am stuck. The channel I got from Restoration Specialties fits in the divider bar, but is too tight and feel that the window is going to bind.

I know that this channel seems to be different in later models and years, so can someone please tell me what they used, and where they got there channel for the windows of a 49 Comm Conv????? I am referrein got the channel that guides the front of the door glass.

thanks

If you mean the channel between the door class and the wing/vent window. I ended up takeing the original piece in one of my Hudsons and actually getting a piece of material (either felt or or something else) and stripping the old stuff off the original metal piece and waxing one side of the material with soap and putting glue on the other side and recovering the channel. Then reinstalling it...seems to work just fine. The rest of my window channel was from Restoration Specialties.

Hey Vic ?? I know the 1929 Hudson window rubber and what ever else is in there (never had it apart yet) is not as popular as the newer Hudsons But would you know who would have these items for the 29s ? If you do not would you be interested in making some replacement kits for "ME" them ? Thanks, Your neighbor and fellow electric utility worker friend :), Ron

Dennis, Russ, Paul and Al. Yesterday I went to see Bill Albright and borrowed a convt. window and the channel that the division bar fits in. It's a real tight fit; so I pealed back the felt and removed the rubber on the bar, than put the felt back in place. Than, placed Division Bar in the channel. The window slides snug. VicTor Z

I had the same problem on a 54 Hollywood. and I am fairly sure I passed the solution on to Dennis or posted here on the board. I had several guys tell me the sedan divider channel was the same.. It's AIN'T believe me. Just to explain what's going on for those that don't have a Hollywood or Conv. The conv and hollywood door glass has a stainless steel frame around the entire glass. The leading edge if the window frame has a blade that runs in the divider bar that is thinner than the glass. AND the divider bar is thinner than the sedan version. Therefore a special channel run is required that not only is thinner in it's outside width but also thinner in it's inside width.

So here's what I did....I used a razor blade and removed most of the outer rubber coating from the new channel. Being careful to not remove the portion that will be exposed. It was very easy to peal off. I then placed an aluminum strap into the channel. The strap thickness was aproximately the same thickness of the blade on the window frame. (The divider bar was out of the car, on a bench.) I used a mallet to drive the channel into the divider bar by driving the aluminum strap. I didn't need any adhesive. it is a tight fit. If you try to drive the channel in by it's self, it will distort and make the opening narrower and make it unuseable. After a generous spray of silicone, the window frame blade slid with little interference. Hope this helps.

    Disclamer... It worked for ME...

    Merry Christmas! Dave W.
