How to, or how I did 49 window channel.
I had plenty of channel, some free time and bad Chistmas music in my shop. In the end, I think I have a solution to share. I think this is pretty much what others have done, or partly done, but for the record. after many hours dinking around, here is how I got my 49 done using Victor's channel.
Please note that I did not use any glue at all. I used the factory mounting holes in the divider channel. This works great and provides a very flush finish and factory look all the way. Not sure if this will work post 49, but it works great here.
1. Cut to length based on old channel.
2. Take a razor blade, lay flat and cut off all the rubber from the BOTTOM of the new channel. You can do this in one big slice.
3. Lay channel on it's side, and make a slice the length of the channel, about 1/8" below the lip on each side. Peel off the rubber and material below cut. You dont want to cut off too much, because if you get too close to the lip it will unravel. At the same time, you need to cut off enough so that it fits in the divider.
4. Turn channel open side down, and place old channel along side as template. Mark four holes (one at each end, and two in the center) and drill using 3/16" bit. Be careful not to let material wrap around bit once through the metal.
5. Place channel in divider, and using countersunk, flat head screws, take care of the first top three. Bottom one will need a nut, or you could use a rivet if you like. Obviously, you need to use flat screws so the window does not hit. Make sure you tighten all the way once you have all four in. Once you tighten them they will bury themselves in the brush and not obstuct the window.
6. Channel is going to be a tadt too tight and window will bind, so take a flat screw driver, or a peice of metal stock and slowly move it down the channel, prying a bit on each side to open it up a bit. With door glass out of car, test it to see it it is loose enough.
7. Do something else, you are done.

Hello Dennis, great writeup on the Convt. Division Bar channeling. Do you know if the '48 - '54 convts and hollywoods use the same division bar?
Thanks VicTor Z0 -
