Wasp interior

Anyone here got a Wasp with a decent looking original interior they can send me photos of. If 54 is different I would prefer those. I have a buddy who I want to have tear out my pimp daddy interior in my Special and redo it as close to original as I can. Unfortunately the only things original in my interior are the dash and pull ropes on the back of the front seats which are green.

    If I can get out to the garage today I will take some pictures of my 54 Hornet Special sedan. Will e-mail them to you tomorrow.

    Thanks Bob that would be a great start. Mine is an oddball.It is a 54 Special 2 door sedan.

    I have the Original Sales Book for the 54 Hudsons.. It shows alot of the Interiors in It...Not sure if I can scan the pics, but if I can I would be glad to E mail them to you...

    Could one of you gentleman who are familar with '54s tell me if the seat backs are as thick as earlier step-downs or did they get a little leaner in '54? For example, would a set of factory seat covers that were designed to fit a '54 Wasp coupe be too tight to slide over the seat backs of a '53 Wasp coupe?

    I don't think they got any smaller in 54

    I don't think anything changed there either but as I keep learning, they did a lot of strange things in 54 to clean the shelves for the merger.

    I got them Bob Thanks! Is JPEG 1 of a front door? Can't quite tell as mine is a 2 door and I don't know if there is any difference from the front to rear. It's a great start and I am going to print them out and show them to my upholsterer buddy. I seriously doubt that design can be found anywhere but maybe we will find something close.

    010 I tried to give a visual reference for the thickness of the front seat. I know the seats are not as thick as the Hornet seats.

    Thanks Bob. Actually I am hoping to thin my seat out,at least in front. I cannot get comfortable in it and I feel like I am too close to the steering and pedals, even though I have everything in the furthest back position.

    The Wasp of 1953 & 1954 used a different front seat style than the earlier step-downs and the upscale brothers. The Wasp seats were designed more like the seats used in the Jet series, while the Super Wasp, Hornet & Hornet Special used the traditional stepdown front seat design.

    Jim since this story is anecdotal, I can't say it the absolute truth but here goes. A while back I was working on a 52 Wasp an older gent wanted work done on.Periodically I would have to get in the driver seat to complete some of the work. It felt to me like a wood bench as compared to my 51 Hornet. I knew that this was an origional car as the man told me it had been in the family since new. I asked several folks I know who had experience with both Wasps and Hornets and they confirmed that the padding was lighter on Wasp front seats and that both Wasps and Hornets lost padding as the stepdown era progressed. FWIW

    Hudzilla - The Wasp you were working on probably did not have the "air- foam" option, this was an extra cost item in the lower series. The Hornets and Commodores had airfoam cushions as standard equipment. The fact remains that the 1953 and 1954 Wasp series used a completely different front seat than did the other '53 & '54 Hudsons

    Thank you gentlemen for your thoughts regarding the profile and nature of the Wasp seats. The reason that I asked such a specific question was that I have a set of vintage seat covers (the thick, clear plastic ones with the little white stars, remember those?) that are labelled specifically as fitting a '54 Wasp two door. I understand why they would be exclusive to the Wasp and not Hornet (no rear arm rest), but I was curious as to why they would only be appropriate for '54 models. I have a restorable '52 Wasp coupe that I acquired them for as a future option, but other projects are calling and I think that both the seat covers and the Wasp may find new homes this spring.
