Wiring help 1947 C8 Sedan

Hi all,
My '47 C8 needs the wiring completely redone
I found my original numbers matching engine complete with Drive Master.
Electircal is my weak spot in my mechanical knowledge. The easy thing to call
R.I. Wiring and order a new original 6V harness,
however there's a few things going on with my project.
1. I'm going to add an overdrive to my trans from a step-down but I still want to keep Drive Master and have everything working. What do I need to do to the harness?
2. I considered that adding a fuse box might be a good thing to do.
3. I also considered adding in a step-up transformer to run a modern radio (in addition to the old Zenith) which I wouldhide somewhere like in the trunk.
4. I already strung some 12 V wires through the headliner where the factory routed them. I probably can't use them with the 6 V right ?
5. I also plan on adding in lights for the glass Hudson triangles on the side of the hood.
So all in all if I ordered a Harness It'd need a lot of modifications right ?
What's the best way to deal with all this ? Stay 6V ...which I think would put me on the road sooner....or modify to 12V and rework the whole system ?

Aaron,
To try and answer your questions in a basic sense:
1. Do your mechanical work first. Then, depending on how well that works,
get or make up wiring as needed. Don't put the cart in front of the horse.
2. A fuse box would be a nice convenience, although not original.
3. A step-up transformer would probably work, but would need filtering.
4. It's the gauge of wire that's important. What you have may work fine.
5. Lights on the sides of the hood would be cool and relatively simple to do.
I'll be at a swap meet in the morning, but i'm planing on being at the "Tech Session" on the 21st. If you're there, we can chat more.

I bet he will make your head swim with ideas and ways to spend, spend, spend you hard earned money. You and I have talked on the tele and have passed each other at a few local events, but have never "officially" met. I'm easy to spot, I'm the tall guy who still has teeth, and doesn't use crutches or a walker, that nobody knows. :rolleyes:0 -
Hudson Dave here . The lights in the hood are to cool , I just did it to my 46 Com. 4 door. I took the three nuts off the back of the reflectors then made the hole bigger. Then I bought a universal light socket and put in an 1157 bulb . You have to space the reflector out from the hood a little bit . All I did was bend the tabs out a little and it works COOL . I have running lights and turn signals In the hood V . As for 6V or 12V I would say 12V if you plan to drive and in joy your car . Like a (EVERY DAY DRIVER ) 6 V If keeping it O/E Is important . Some thing to remember Is that 12V is now excepted In circles with more and more people .#1 Safety . Better lighten
HEAD LIGHTS--STOP LIGHTS--AND TAIL LIGHTS . It is nice to be seen. And don't for get starting . #2 As we get to the Golden Years we like things like A/C--- STEREOS--CRUSE CONTROL--AND RADAR FOR THE GOLDEN YEAR DRIVERS THAT ARE STILL YOUNG AT HEART. The change over to 12V is reasonable easy a hand full of 12V bulbs A single wire GM Alt. and one good day work and your good to go . I know I know you say what about the gages ? oil and gen. lights just change the bulbs gas gage is tough you leave it alone it dose not know 6V from 12V same with temp. gage. don't for get to change flasher if you have turn signals. I am sorry I am rambling . But if you look you will see a few thing that were not accepted just a few short years ago. # 12V , A/C , Radial tires ,Disc Brakes are all OK now. My (FAVORITE ONE OF ALL) IS It makes no difference If your car came with a 212--232-- 262 as long as It Is a 308 Hudson Motor It makes NO DIFFERENCE WHAT IT IS IN IT IS OK. I will quit before I upset anybody . Thank you for letting me vent . Hudson Dave www.FatWhiteWalls.com0
